2520 first oil change

I decided to do my first oil and filter change on my JD 2520. The manual and dealer both said it takes 3 qt. However, when I drained it it was closer to a gallon. I refilled with 3 qt and it was just at the low mark, it would take almost another full qt to fill it to the high mark. Has anybody else noticed this? Does it actually take 3.8 qt or a full gallon, not 3 qt?

Fill it till its in between the add and full marks. Your oil pan capacity is 3qt. That doesn't factor in the oil that sits in your oil filter and other little nooks.

I changed mine yesterday, and it took just short of a full gallon - same as last year.

The manual and your dealer are wrong,sort of. There are two different engines. One does take 3 quarts,but the engine in our 2520 takes almost 4.

once you get it to measure where you want it...at full...it's important to run the engine a few mins and check it again. my experience has been that it will take a bit more after it runs a bit. this goes with trans, coolent, etc.

It takes closer to 4 than 3.

The tech manual lists the capacity as 4 quarts with filter.
