I had the steel screw piles in for a different building that didn't wind up happening so thought I would stick with steel for the frame anyway. Everything after this will be of wood construction.

What is the purpose of the offset at the base of the posts?

What is the purpose of the offset at the base of the posts?

When the screw piles were originally placed they were lined up in one direction but the other direction was less critical. When the use was changed one pile was out of line by seven inches so i added to the cap and gussetted it.

here is last nights work, by tonight that side wall should be sheeted and tomoorow I will start on the other wall.

Can you get a close up picture of how those rafters connect to the ridge beam? I'm interested in your methods.

I will try to get a picture tonight, but basically it is a birds mouth notch in both ends so weight sits directly on the beams. Then a plywood plate completing the joint on both sides of the truss.

The last four days has seen a lot of progress. I left early from work Thursday and Friday and finished the rafters. Yesterday two guys from work came over and we got the fascias on and all strapping ( see pic), Thanks Mike and Todd. Today my son came over and we got all but two sheets of roof in on.
Should be as far as I am going this year by this comming weekend.

YAY

PS too dark to snap pic with tin on will grab one tomorrow.

My intention of sitting on top was to keep as much of the force vertical as I could, otherwise cross bracing tends to need to be much larger. The rafter span is only about 11 feet and they are 2x6 select so hopefully LOL they stand up to snow load.

here is a pic I took before I left for work, its a little dark and blurry but shows progress to date. I will rty to take a better one if I get home before dark.

Well some more work got done on the weekend, the roof tin and ridge cap are all done with the help of my son.

The gable end I will tin in and then just tarp in the openings until spring. I have already started putting tha hay that is in the original part of my shop in there so I can finish all my other projects.

On this one I actually beat old man winter! YAY!!!

Looks great, I think I would install two 3/8"pieces of cable at the top of the 2x10. to insure they dont go out with snow load.Your frame work will keep it at start, middel, an finish with ease.

Not quite sure where you are wanting the cable.

I didn't enplane it very good at all, sorry
Tie a piece of 3/8" cable with a eye bolt (3/8') perpendicular to the 2x10. Youll need 2 of each. if your building is say 24 ft from gable to barn ,an you have a cross tie at 12 ft, what I am suggesting is put another one at 6ft. an another one 18ft.what your building will try to do with a heavy snow load is push the walls out the cables will stop this.
Hope this helps
