2320 62D question

I have a new JD 2320 with 62D mower deck. I had the dealer install the hydraulic lift for the deck and it seems to me that no matter where I set the height control knob on the floor of the tractor the deck seems to go all the way down when I use the hyd lift?? Is the height control disabled with the hyd lift or is something out of adjustment??

Yes, I belive so... The floor adjustment knob is for mechinical linkage off the 3 point only. I think you can get a separate adjustment knob/controler for the independent lift.

i read your thread and i went out to check my 2320 my nob works from lock to m height when i set on m mower is almost on the flore anotherwords only a few clicks work doesnt work to good madey the is an adjustment .

I"ve never had much luck with setting the height on my 2305 either, other than locking in the transport and that is iffy too. I usually just let it ride on the deck wheels for cutting....I know it's not the way it was designed, but I got tired of aggrevating with it.

Take a look at what the height control knob is connected to. The mechanical lift kit on the 2x20 doesn't need a lock knob since you can just set the 3PH to the appropriate spot to put the mower where you want it to go, but the hydraulic lift kit isn't designed to hold the weight of the mower deck so it'll bleed down without the height control knob installed. My knob is installed on the left fender just in front of the ROPS and it connects to the mower mounting frame using a threaded rod to prevent it from dropping below a certain height.

Is it just me or does this all sound too complex? For mowing I use an L130 riding mower with a 48" deck and simple lever height control, 23 hp Kohler engine. This combination is fairly light compared to a garden tractor or subcompact. I would think that for repetitive mowing of lawns that the tractors are too heavy. I think of mowers weighing less than 1000 lbs and tractors starting at 4000 lbs and up JMHO.

Anyway can you get a simple mechanical lift for the 62" deck or is it real heavy compared to say a 48" deck?

well, my 2305 weighs in at about 1600 lbs with loaded tires and 62c deck. the tires are much bigger than your l130, so that weight is distributed over a larger area. I would bet that the lbs per sq inch of my tractor and your l130 is very similar.

True if you are running with turf tires, but then your tractor has limited traction compared to ag tires. Just my opinion but I prefer a mower small enough to manuever between trees and a tractor that can do more serious ground engaging tasks. I may purchase a 2xxx tractor at some point if needed but I want to see how well I can manuever with the 4520 first. That is about as small a tractor as I think will do a significant amount of work.
