223D Won't start

My old 223D has been acting up.

Over the last few months I've had some problems with the tractor loosing power. Usually it'd work for several hours and then would loose power and eventually die all together. After sitting for a day or so it would start back up and go a few more hours and then quit again.

It seemed that this usually happened when it was getting low on fuel so I assumed it was air in the fuel or some kind of vapor lock, when looking in the fuel tank it sometimes looked a little bubbly.

This happened again the other day and I let it set for a day, topped off the tank and it ran for about 5 minutes and quit. Since then I can't get it to crank at all.

I've got no experience with diesels and am at a loss. I took out the air filter to make sure it was getting air and also removed the fuel filter to make sure there was no blockage there. No luck. Turns over and over bu
t won't fire.

Can somebody give me some advise here please.

bleed the fuel lines

OK, I bled the fuel system and she ran for about 10 minutes and then quit again.

There was less fuel coming from the lines at the injectors than I was expecting. I took the nut things completely off of the injectors and made sure the lines were loose and I only got a few drops coming from them after quite a while turning it over. Is this right?

When I cracked the bleeders upstream of the pump the fuel come right out.

Any more ideas?

You have to start by bleeding the lines correctly. Don't mess with the injectors. Begin with a full tank. Open the bleed screw before the filter and let fuel run out until no air escapes, repeat with the screw after the filter, then again with the screw at the pump. Attempt to start. If no start, repeat the process. Make sure there are no air leaks. Can we assume you have replaced the fuel and air filters, (normal maintenance)?
