I cannot answer that for you, but I've read somewhere on this forum that Kubota is selling that u-joint. It was for a 2305 but I suspect it to be the same as yours. Do a search on this forum, you might find it or go to a Kubota dealer if one is close, they may be able to help you. Good luck!

I remember that post also. The poster even provided the part number.

"Kubota u-joint would work on the JD driveshaft. Part number --#37410-13722. Sells on Amazon for $33".

"After completely disassembling my tractor etc. and discovering there was nothing left of my PTO "spider bearings" as they are called except for some reddish brown powder I went to JD and ordered up 2 spider bearing kits. I think they were about $30 each. Pounded out the powdery old ones and tapped (gently) in the new pin bearings, greased GENEROUSLY, and good to go!
The JD PART NUMBER for the bearings is LVA803335."

Yep, I bought a pair of those and they work fine.

As for the fan,,, I've been running without mine for three years now with no issues. I only mow and push snow, no heavy tillage work.

I really appreciate all of the updates.

I did hear talk of putting an external cooler on the hydraulic lines. I wonder if anyone made that happen? I find that preferential to pulling my transmission out next time.

I did get two ujoint without the grease fittings from the U Joint store. They are 20mm by 55mm. $40 gets two of them. I will see how they work.

I noticed that the hydro connectors have copper rings on them. Do those need to be replaced each time you disconnect the lines?

I would to be safe. Same as the copper or aluminum washer on your car's oil drain plug. You would be kicking yourself having to replace the washer after you re-assembled everything, started the tractor, and had hydro oil spraying all over the place.....

I am sure they are not that expensive. I will call JD to get a set.

Now my current dilemma. I have just crossed a milestone. I slid the tranny about 2-3 inches back (actually, I pushed the front end forward. I have enough movement to put the fan on which was my main goal. Congradulate me! :). While I have it broken down this far, I was thinking about looking into my gear whine while the transmission is under load. I am thinking that maybe one of the pinion gears may worn causing this noise. Anyone else have this problem with 2210? When I drained the oil and pulled the magnets out, they had filings on them and this is my second change. Does this warrant digging deeper into the transmission? The downside is I do not have a garage or concrete floor to work on to do this work. I only have an out building. So far, I am manipulating everything on jack stands and the frame is still sort of plugged in to the transmission. Any thoughts?

The filings you are finding concern me. Makes me wanna check mine....

Well, I am in deep now. I pulled off the right axle and cover to expose part of the drive train range gears. I can see the differential bull and pinion as well as some upstream gearing (counter shaft).. So far I am seeing nothing out of the ordinary. Not what I expected. Wondering where else I should look for oddly worn parts.

What would make this thing so noisy? When there is stress on the drive train, it is very whiney. I watched some youtube videos of other peoples 2210 and their engine makes more noise than their transmission. That is not the case for me. The transmission is louder when there is even slight load on the tractor, such as accellerating or hill climbing or towing a trailer. Where else should I look? Would this sound like a noisy hydro motor issue?

How many hours are on your 2210? I have 395. Does your transmission make more noise than the motor when the transmission is under a load?

I got the tranny in neutral so now I can turn it. I can hear the noise while spinning the assembly. The noise is definitely in there. I believe it is coming from the two beveled gears on this photo. I am seeing no odd wear but maybe this is just out of adjustment. Usually you can shim the pinion to change the mesh. I will look in the manual to see if that is doable

I feel your pain. You are in DEEP now with no answers.

The only way I ever hear my drive train is if I have a severe load on it and it's about to bog down. My unit has 475hrs.

Do you mean you can turn the unit by hand now and hear a whiney noise??

My tranny would whine on all but the lightest loads. For example, it would whine driving on flat pavement.

I checked those gears out in place. No odd wear but my suspicion is that the gears are meshed too tight. I have seen this with other straight cut gears. Mesh them too tight and they will roar. I wonder if I can push that beveled gear back a thousandth of an inch or so. If not, maybe I will just replace them.

When I turn the large bull gear, it turns the countershaft gears. The whine I hear from the counterparts gears is the noise I hear while driving the tractor.

Again, if you are saying you hear the whine when you turn the gears by hand, you are not hearing gear whine. You are hearing bearing or seal whine. You can't turn the gears fast enough or with enough load to create whine by hand.

I'd want to go real slow with this project and apply the K.I.S.S. principle. Keep It Simple Stupid. (Not calling you stupid) If there's no obvious gear damage visually, then they are fine.

If they are set too close, then a bearing or shim or something else is the culprit. If that's true, then how did that happen? Maybe assembled wrong, but very doubtful, cause it would have ate itself before now.

Might be something so simple as a snap ring failure??

Or may be whine in the hydraulic motor rather than the transmission??

Sorry I can't be more help. Wish I were there to help. I really enjoy these mystery hunts!!!

Found something interesting. The beveled counter shaft gears are cast iron. They machined around the perimeter but the tooth contact points are cast finish. All other gears have machined surfaces. Also, the ring gear floats on the geared what so it's tolerance can be variable. I will ask JD if these parts are still made this way.

Does anyone have a good source for JD parts at decent prices? Looks like 9 of 10 dealers seem to charge the full retail price on parts. Any dealer recommendations would be appreciated.

FYI, the local JD dealer wants $220 for the bevelled gear set. That seems steep for a cast gear!

WHile the unit is apart, I am taking time to inspect many of the wearable parts internally. Looked over the pto brake and clutch. Brake lookes ok per the manual. Clutch measures 2.17 mm and failure is 2.7. That passes. Atleast that is one thing I do not have to replace or disassemble. Going to look into Hydro motor next.

Just got a call from the local JD dealer about the beveled gears. I asked them to check if the new gear teeth are a cast finish or machined. The parts manager indicated that the tooth faces are machined. If this is accurate, then this is clearly a change in process. I think machined teeth will be much quieter.

One more place to check for noise is in the hydo motor. I will break that open in a few days. Too many things going on.
