Well I came accross a Cub Cadet 2082 with a bad motor. Looks like the Hydro is good. And I have a Kubota D722 diesel sitting in the shop.

What do you think? Is it feasable? The 2082 looks bigger than my father's 1512D that has the 600cc Kubota diesel in it.

I'm not real familure with the 2082s, besides having power steering it looks simply newer/bigger than my father's 1512.

i dont see why it wouldnt work. im pretty sure i read somewhere a 1572 was a super.

They did use them in the Cadet supers so it should be a relatively easy swap.

Can you tell me anything about the 2082's? How is the mower driven (belt) and is ther an option for a PTO and 3 point on them?

What motor came originaly in the 2082s?

Thanks

The 2082's are a "Super", so it's bigger than the 1512 which is a standard GT. The 2082 can be outfitted with a cat 0 3pt and a rear pto, but they are expensive and a little hard to find. 2082 had a kohler magnum 20 in them. They are tough tractors. The only rely complaint about them is the plastic hood, grille, and side panels. It's a weak design that is prone to breaking. Also, it is in a series of tractors commonly called "Cyclops" tractors because of the one piece headlight panel.

Also, the mower is belt driven. I don't think cub cadet ever used a shaft driven deck until the newer 3000 series. The transmission is shaft driven though.

Do you have a friend that owns/operates a machine shop? The cost of having adapters fabricated could run into real money quickly. Also the 2082 has an electric clutch mounted on the crankshaft end on the front of the engine to operate the mower deck via a belt. Does the Diesel engine have such a crankshaft extension on the front of the engine?

Yes, you have the ability to run an electric clutch much like I assume my father's 1512D is setup. The clutch is actually on the flywheel end of the motor and the shaft to the transaxle is mounted off of the 'fron't of the motor. ie the motor is in backwards as you would normaly think about it.

The 2082 is in the family of Super GT's Cub produced for several years. I had a 1782 with the PTO & 3-pt, very capable machine. I've seen both on Ebay recently, they are hard to find but around. I believe the engine in my 1782 was a Kubota 640D, so if yours is in the same family of engines you should be ok? I also had a kwik-way loader on my SGT, it was a very nice setup. I sold it to go to a sub-compact with 4wd, otherwise I'd have been very happy keeping it.
Good luck!

I'm not sure if you can shoe horn that d722 in the engine compartment of a 2082 but you can try. I did see where the d722 is a 3 cylinder motor so it might fit. The 1512 engine compartment is the same size as the 1512's and the d600 is a tight fit. Just remember that anything is possible with a torch and a welder.

I would like to know how the D722 works for you in the 2082. I've got a 1782 and have often thought of putting a bigger Kubota in it. Kind of seems a little under powered but it is ok. If anyone is interested in a 1782 I would sell mine. I've spent several thousand dollars on it, engine re-ringed, power steering pump fixed(leaked), hydrostat rebuilt, new fenders, new hood, countless hours just tinkering. Have a 60 inch deck, 54 inch deck(bought new 2 years ago), front blade(weights chains). Have bought numerous other new parts. Looks good, almost new and it should for what I have spent on it. Anyway good luck on the engine swap.

Don't think a D722 will fit in a 2082. If it does it will be real tight fit. The D640/D600 that cub Cadet used was a different family engine than the D722. The D722 is a bigger engine size wise. I put a D902 (That is the same family as the D640/D600) in a 1782 and and it was real tight. Had to use an electric fan because the Radiator was right next to the water pump. Good luck
