I had to take the shield off that flips up to do some testing, and I wanted to ask a question. Do I need to put it back on? It's a pain on all tractors working around it, and I can see what it does except if something comes loose or PTO picks something up...which has never happened to me on any of my rear PTO machines. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I leave it off. It is good to have when you have a PTO shaft running and are working around it (such as a feed mill or corn sheller).
Use good judgement and you should be fine.

I’ve removed them from previous 4 JD & my current 3 JD.
I hate them.
I’m not going to be anywhere around a moving shaft so why fight it hooking & unhooking

That is awesome. I think I will cut the sides of mine as well. I too, am nowhere near the PTO when running it, so I feel pretty confident I won't kill myself :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Cut off the strings to the sweatshirt hoodie too.

Back in the day, that PTO cover was a step to help get on and off the tractor, before it too was no longer needed. As a kid, eventually grew tall enough to not need that step anymore. ;):D

The cover is a necessity. It’s where you set any gloves, snap pins, washers or other tools to forgot about when attaching or detaching an implement.

Funny and true! I used to keep on old circular magnet from the HST filter on the cover to hold on to lynch pins.
