I have a 2320 I bought new and I love it. I need a back hoe, though. Is it better to sell my tractor abs go all new or buy a 270A and slap it on. I have about 180 hours on my tractor now. I'll be doing some site work and fence installation soon. I also heard the post hold diggers for the 2320 do not go deep. Thoughts?

If you have had this tractor for 6 years and are satisfied with it I would keep it. Why not rent/hire a backhoe to get your projects done, then return it and not have the additional notes on another tractor.

If you need a backhoe and the work justifies the cost, then I would just buy a frame mounted backhoe and add it on. Why loose all the money on a trade in (you will loose money no matter how good the deal you think you are getting) when you likely already have the tractor paid for. If it is large enough to suit your needs and the backhoe attachment for it will work for your anticipated jobs, keep it and just outlay the money for the hoe.

The other option is to keep your tractor and buy a used full sized backhoe like a 310 JD or Case or JIC. JD and Case have good reps as being bullet proof. A well used hoe might have a little slop in the pins but that doesn't keep them from working well. As long as the cylinders don't drip oil when used and the engine starts with little to no blue smoke then I would work it. A fairly good used commercial grade of backhoe can be bought for about the price of your backhoe attachment for your tractor.

I recently went through this with my 3000 series. In the end I went the route of a Deere 35 mini excavator and kept my tractor. I bought the biggest mini I could tow (our land is 20 miles from home). On paper these machines are pretty impressive... check out the videos online as well... good stuff! From everything I found, even a little 17 mini would out perform either of our tractors with a backhoe by a long way. A used 17 with a few hours is certainly going to cost more than your BH but not by as much as you might think. If you're not afraid of higher hours, you can get a bigger mini yet for not as much as you might think. I also was tempted by a small commercial backhoe such as a 110... a full size was out of the question since we don't live on our land otherwise it would have gotten a more serious look.
I haven't take delivery of our mini quite yet, but I'm pretty excited about going this route after doing a little homework. ;) If you read enough, guys absolutely love their little excavators. Mine coming is 8500 lbs... so to me, that's not exactly "mini." Best wishes!
