Hello, I work in Milwaukee, but live life in Northern Wisconsin. My family has been blessed with a piece of land for about 80 years. Its about 250 acres that is surrounded by public forest, with very little access from the other side. My Dad is 71 and still hops off of his John Deere A with a jammer on the back for logging. but it is getting hard for him. We have a 50's Allis Chalmers D17 Gas that has managed to pull my disk and brush hog and 3 bottom plow for food plots. I have a 20 acre field that my grandfather cleared in the 30's to land airplanes on. We call it the airport. (friends look at me funny when i bring them there because this field is literaly in the middle of thousands of acres of State Forest) Anyway my goal is to plant enough food to pull every deer off of the corn piles that the public land hunters dump in the woods in Nov. And have a tool to move snow and dirt around, and drag a tree out of the woods now and then. No heavy farming being done.
I've got "newer" tractor fever. The D17 broke and the implement dealer near me (30 miles) is backed up for weeks. I was pulling the disk with the " A" and it was really working, and i got bit by a hornet and sun burnt something fierce. SOOO time for an upgrade.
My question for you all. Based on the internet info on tractor house. I can get a 2009 5 series M model with about 1500 hours for about the same price as a 2013 5 series E model with very few hours. With a loader and cab about 45-50k depending on 85 horse or 95 horse. Which one would you folks choose? I'm inclined to go with the newer E series. I don't "think" I need the "beefier" frame and it seems like the creature comforts of the newer E models have caught up to the M's of a few years ago.
Any advice is appreciated. I will also be buying this from a dealer sight unseen other than pictures and having it shipped. The supply of such machines in Wi seems to be much smaller than a little further South.
Thanks!!!
