I need more towing capacity and there is one of these for sale down the road from me. 2008 f350 dually with the v10. I think it said heavy duty or super duty on it. Need to tow a 14k trailer. It's not an engine or truck I know much about. 71,000 miles and 21k$ owner said it was mainly used for towing a camper.

What do yall think?

I have never owned one, but I think the V10 was a decent engine, and paired with the auto of that generation, it should be good truck. I test drove an older one with the four speed and I think that was the only weak point besides abysmal fuel mileage.

The market is crazy and HD trucks are hard to find in good shape at reasonable prices. $21K may not be a bad price depending on options and condition.

Can't speak to the price...I think all rigs are overpriced these days. I can speak to the V10 motor - I have one in my 2007 E350. Very solid motor, excellent reputation for reliability. Many, many of these motors in heavy duty applications - I think that engine is still used in the latest motor homes - and they easily last 200,000+ miles. Makes good power but at higher rpms, just like all Ford engines of that era. Fuel mileage not so good - my overall average over the past 70,000+ miles is 11.8. But then it is a heavy rig - 8300 lb empty so a lot of weight to move.

I had one and it towed like **** compared to my '04 6.0 diesel. Just did not have any balls to move the truck let alone my 7k trailer. I know diesels are stupidly priced right now but if you don't plan on selling any time soon it might be worth the investment.

Yeah I agree... I was browsing around the VA area and not a whole lot out there for 21k.
Might be worth it if its clean and passes an inspection

What was your rear end gearing? I have no power problems with 4.56 gears in mine.

And then, no gas engine can compare to towing with a diesel. Why I own one of those too!
