2007 Cub Cadet LT1046
Good morning all, I was hoping for help here before I take my mower to a service dept.

I was mowing my grass, and when I went to back up, I felt a little pop in the reverse. The mower still backed up, but I could tell it was much slower now in reverse. I had no issues with the forward movement on the mower. I was able to complete the mowing, but by the end of the day, the reverse stayed the same, and I could also tell it had no power in reverse if I needed to back up a sloop, it would not move. Anyone know what this could be. Hopefully not the transmission, but that is my luck. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You basically have 2 options.

1. The linkage from the reverse pedal to the transmission.

2. After 12 years the more likely cause is the transmission.

More specifically on the linkage. Look closer at the linkage at the transaxle itself plus for loose mounting hardware for the transaxle.

Thanks Guy, I sure hope its a linkage problem, and not the transmission.

OK, guys, I have taken the fenders off the mower and have found 2 wires, Red, and Green right down there by the reverse parts on the transmission. Both those wires are broke off and not connected anymore, I can find where the green (ground) goes, but cannot find where the red goes. Reading the parts Manuel, there seems to be a reverse safety switch. Anyone know where the red may go.

OH boy, Unless this is the wires that control the pto when I go into reverse and it shuts it down,

Yep, disregard, those wires go to the switch. Back to the drawing board.

Tape them up if you don't want the switch cutting the PTO out. Is the traction belt in rotten shape perchance?

Update. After my last post, I went back out to try and see what else it could be. While hoping something would stand out. I noticed that the frame was broke right in front of the cross member and the bolt that holds the cross member to the frame was missing. The other side was good, although the bolt was loose. I welded up the frame, and put new bolts in the cross member, put all back together, and now it works like it used to. I guess there was enough separation in there to cause that. The crack was fresh, so I have to believe that was the pop I heard.
Thanks again for your help. Hopefully I won't be having to ask any other questions for a while.
