I started noticing chattering when pulling the box blade under fairly heavy load, until today chattering started and the 4wd stopped working, then chattering got much worse. I found another thread "final post below"where a guy had an identical problem, he was somewhat vague about how he fixed it anyone else know what he is talking about

"the plate the holds the axel in the tractor was loose cant see it couldnt tell the bolts were loose but sure enough they were an that is what was causing the problem with the MFWD.Guess the axel would pull a bit an cause the drive shaft to slip.. "

At this point I have jacked it up and taken off the axle housing. With the right sided wheel on the ground "left axle housing off" 4wd engaged I put a wrench on one of the bolts that holds the gears together when I turn the gears "driveshaft stationary" can see the pinion gear slipping but do not know how to tighten it. Amazingly the gears do not look damaged when I drained the front diff fluid it was a little dirty but no large shavings or pieces.
