Allmand 8435 HST (TYM T330 HST)
I have 2 problems with my Allmand 8435 HST (TYM 330 HST). 700 hours

1) Engine starts and runs for about 5 seconds and dies. I can hear clicking sound as the engine dies. My neighbor says it is a solenoid problem, but I don't know what that is.

2) PTO is not turning. Engaged PTO lever, pressed PTO switch, selected PTO Manual or Auto. I can feel the PTO lever firming up, but no PTO spinning.

Service manual says 1) PTO lever not fully engaged, 2) PTO switch bad, 3) PTO valve clogged, 4) PTO pump bad and one more that I can't remember. What is the most likely cause? I have to start somewhere.

Thanks.

Edit: Bought the tractor at 350 hours. Just bought a bush hog and needed to run PTO for the first time.

These are two very easy fixes. The first problem is most likely a problem with the seat safety switch. The click that you hear is the engine stop solenoid. It is a normal sound. The second problem is also very easy to fix. the problem is with the electric solenoid on the PTO stack valve. This valve is located on the righthand side of the transmission. Easiest access is through the fenderwell Once you locate the valve, you will see an electric solenoid that coming off the rear valve body. There is a manual override button located on the end of the solenoid. Use a small screw driver or punch to push the button. Once the solenoid has been broken free, your PTO should work fine. To avoid this in the future, turn your PTO on about once a week for a few moments.

How far in should the manual override go in when pushing it with the punch?

My 353HST dies suddenly. The engine will be running strong and then just dies as though the ignition is being shut off. Then it starts right up again, but will die again after moving a few feet.

The operator's manual says for the symptom "The engine stops suddenly", that the cause is "Lack of Fuel, Faulty injectors, or
Seized engine due to lack of oil, the wrong oil or lack of coolant." My engine isn't seized, so it must be lack of fuel. But is the fuel being shut off for some reason, or is this what happens with a clogged filter?

There is a fuel solenoid that can be turned off if a safety switch, like the one under the seat, goes open. So it may be possibly some corroded switch contacts on one of the switches in the circuit? Or for that matter, there could be low voltage being delivered to the solenoid for some reason (alternator? battery? going bad). Hopefully someone will have a better idea here.

I had that trouble and noticed that it would happen when I was leaning forward or partially lifting my weight off the seat. Started cinching down my seatbelt and it fixed that specific problem for me.

The engine stopping problem I have now is not preceded by the solenoid clack. It just dies. My brother, a retired diesel mechanic, tells me to check the fuel tank cap's vent and also the fuel filters.
