2,4-D question

   / 2,4-D question #21
I tried a blue die years ago and found it almost impossible to see. Was it just me or is it something that others find hard to see? Is the red easier to see?
I have no real problems seeing it - might be because I'm often wearing polarized sunglasses, which enhance contrast.

I'm using a 144" boom (not boomless) sprayer and tend to focus my vision on the edge just to the left or right of the tractor that was sprayed on the previous pass. There is a contrast there (between the sprayed and unsprayed section of my lawn)

Part of it might be the amount of dye being used ... too little will surely make it more difficult.

FWIW, the stuff I've used has never stained the tank ... but along the lines of what farmer2009 says: "Don' get it on ya ..."

:D

If you have time, mix a smaller batch and do a small area to see if you have it right... I did the calculations and came up with my recipe this spring, ground speed, pressure, how much chemical, full tank, etc and did not like the results. I did a new recipe this week with faster speed, higher pressure and more chemical. Looks like I got it pretty close, good results after a few days (curling leaves, but not burned)... it will be a nice slow complete death for those weeds... My sprayer has an electric pump and after using a new setup only a few times, the electric switch from the battery gave out... I took it off to return it and get a replacement when earlier today I decided it would cost me less (counting the gas to return it) to just put a new switch on that I already had (normal light switch). I put it in a plastic box and strapped it to the handle on the fender... works great and will never wear out..
