1st gravely / help

I just bought a gravely that wasnt running. I am pretty good on small engines but this 8 hp kohler with aluminum starter housing all the cogs and springs are there but it dont engage does any one have an exploded viewor a clue

Jacks small engines has a pretty good parts diagram setup. When you say it doesn't engage do you mean the starter spins but doesn't turn the engine over or it doesn't even spin?

Don't know anything about your problem, but if you ever reset the ignition points, they need to be set closer than the 0.016 or 0.020" (forgot which) that is speced. Otherwise, the points never close, and it won't start.

thanks guys i think i figured it out the screw was coming out after a couple pulls so maybe some thread locker

LoL I thought you had an electric starter,,,,,, anyways glad you have it fixed

now there is week spark I took off the flywheeland cleaned the surface of magnets now no spark. back to the drawing board.

well I changed the condensor and cleaned the points still no spark I looked at fleabay for kohler magneto coil and wow the price? well some one told me tecumseh will work so its a 17$ shot in the dark let u know when it gets here.also someone said there was a chip that replaces points any idea ?
