1972 JD 4320

Saw one on a trailer next to me when I was fueling up the pickup yesterday. It looked cosmetically restored so it was rather nice looking. The person pulling the trailer was inside paying for his diesel so I didn't talk to him.


Wasn't this basically a 4020 with a turbo? Nice tractor, seems to be a rare one.

I think you are right about the turbo.It definitely was a "souped up" 4020, same frame , close to the same weight, and 15 or so more hp.The 4320 and the 4000 (4020 minus some body work) were only made for 2 or 3 years.

Not QUITE that simple....The 4320 had what Deere referred to as a "turbo built" diesel engine. Heavier oil cooling capacity, different pistons, ect... than the 4020. The 4320 was built in 1971 and 1972. Deere's first turbo-ed farm tractor was the 4520, built in 1969 and 1970. It was rated at 122hp. They suffered from a few "teething problems". In '71, the 4320 was introduced. It was rated at 116hp. It was accompanied by the 4620, a turbo/intercooled version @ 135 hp. The 4320 was for all intents and purposes, the forerunner to the 4430. The 4620 evolved into the 4630.

The 4000 was a stripped down version of the 4020, same 94hp engine, just a lot less features and less weight. It was built in 1971 and 1972. The last version of the 4020 was 94hp on the syncro tranny models and 96hp on the powershift models.
