I have been hunting for a muffler extension for my 1920 NH. (It's the part that goes up vertically from the muffler and bends to complete the stack) Anyway. I went to the NH dealer & they wanted $65.00 for it. I decided to try the regular muffler shop today to see what they'd charge to make one. $10 is what he charged me. He flared the end so it would fit my new muffler and bent & cut the top end of it. Cant beat that price!!!!!!!!! Just thought I'd share that with you guys needing a new exhaust extension.

I allways shop around when I need a tractor part. Some times you can get the part you need somewhere other than a dealer. Save $$$ is what it is all about thewse days.

Cool, I took a piece of EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) out of a scrap pile, cut, bent the tip and bevel cut it. It's been holding pretty good in the last 5 years. Cost me 15 minutes of labor.

JC,

Nice Work!!!! I just couldn't make myself spend $65 on a piece of metal worth $3.00.

I agree. Before the economy tanked I had a great paying job and could (foolishly) afford over-priced things like that but these days I have to watch every penny.

on my 1920 I removed the short bent piece and added a piece off the shelf from autozone. already had the flair and I just used a muffler clamp on it. was a couple foot tall straight pipe that I added a flap cap to. think that cost me 10$ 10ys ago too.

when i sold the tractor i asked the buyer if they wanted the oem bent short stack or the taller one with the flapper cap.. they wanted the flapper cap..

I 'think' I still have my oem bent short stack in the barn somewhere..

that reminds me.. they wanted the non oem bumber i made out of angle iron and expanded metal... looked real good.. did it with mig and a chop saw and a torch..

NICE WORK SOUNDGUY! I was originally going to knock the rust off the old stack with a wire wheel & paint it with high-temp paint but after taking a close look at it the metal was so thin I didn't think it would hold very long. Glad I went to the muffler shop!

yep, the oem stack is like 3 times thicker than aluminum foil.. so yeah.. the muffler extension you used is going to be a WHOLE lot better.

That's odd, 'cause the one on my 2120 has pushed many a branch out of the way for me and never bent. Maybe it's different from the 1920 unit. I did have to reweld the bottom of the muffler, as the whole thing had bent back from hitting things, but the pipe held.

Put my new muffler & $10 stack on last night. Everything fit perfect!. I thought those 4 rusty bolts were going to be a bear but I sprayed some WD40 on them, waited a few min & they came right out.
