Back on track here...
I have a 2350. I also have 5 acres.
When i spoke with my dealer, I was already 99% set on the 2350, but, I asked about the differences anyway. He asked me "Do you have any hills?"
, "If so, get the 2350, you won't be sorry."
I think what he was referrring to is hydraulic pumping power.
You are using an engine to drvie a hydraulic pump. One is 18HP the other 23 HP. Though the pump size is the same, in gpm, the 2350 is going to pump stonger under a load.
Comparison (from the book):
BX1850 BX2350
Weight (no mower): 1212 lbs. 1245 lbs.
Tire size (hgt): F16" R24" F18" R26"
OAL incl. 3PH: 92.7" 96.1"
Width: Same Same
Wheelbase: 52.8" 55.1"
Ground Clearance: 5.9" 6.9"
PTO HP 13.7hp 17.7hp
Those are some of the main differences between the 1850 and 2350.
Thigns to consider regarding the differences:
-Wheelbase assists towing/pulling power.
-1" of ground clearance may seem minimal, but, go over a bump, log or rock and it can make a difference.
-2350 can handle the 60" mower deck, in my case, the 60" deck was a requirement, not an option.
-PTO HP. This is really something to look at when considering PTO powered implements.
Finally, just an assessment on my part, based on the brief info given, mileage may vary. A 1/2 acre lot is at the small end of the spectrum for these machines. But, considering the snow removal in the NorthEast, it is reasonable to see where it's not total overkill.
As far as bringing in truckloads of dirt, I think I would prefer to rent a Skidsteer. Much greater bucket capacity. A 1/2 yard bucket on a skidsteer vs. a 1/5 yd. bucket on the Kubota means more than double the efficiency moving dirt. I see the dirt work you describe as more of a 1 time deal.
For every 1 Yard of material, that is 2 loads you'll carry in a skid steer bucket, and about 5 loads in the BX.
I have moved a tandem wheel dump truck of gravel with both machines, believe me, renting a skidsteer for one day saves time, fuel and the wear and tear on your BX.
For snow removal (your annual winter work) the power angle front blade would shine over the FEL. I haven't used the FEL for snow, yet, but I hear they do "OK" but not a stellar job, unless you are digging out a blizzard.
I guess what I am offering is the idea of looking at your long term usage. Mowing and Snow removal probably being your #1 and #2 uses over the next 10 years.
I have the FEL, and it's great, I won't talk you out of it. But I cut trees, haul logs, rocks, dirt, mulch, etc. around 5 acres, I couldn't do without it.
The PTO HP could restrict you , depending on the implements you desire.
I had a Ford 1210 for a long time, it was approx. 13.5 PTO HP and I remember looking at implements that were calling for closer to 18-20 PTO HP to operate. It cramped my selection to all but the smallest implements.
I'm not giving you THE answer, or AN answer, just some various thoughts to help YOU decide what is best for you.
Just remember what my dealer said, "If you have hills, get the 2350".
GOOD LUCK!
