Not sure where to post this, so stuck it here.

Wife has a landscaping business and we regularly use the PHD to dig holes to plant tree's, shrubs etc.

Currently we have a 12" and a 24" auger.

We used to use an 18" auger that a freind of ours had, but it is no longer available too us.

SWMBO wants an 18".

As the 18" ones are fairly rare and uncommon, they carry the fairly rare and uncommon price of $400 or so................

Being the cheap guy I am, and also having a small bit of welding equipment, I was thinking of taking a Speeco 12" (available at TSC for $150) that is fairly heavily built, and just adding 3" too each flight, and a couple extra teeth.

Anyone done that or have any additional thoughts or insights?

Just my opinion, but probably not worth the time and effort. Best to just bite the bullet and buy the 18" auger.

The $400 price came from both TSC and the local tractor store.
