Hey all.

Just purchased a tym t654psc and am looking to get a set of chains for the rear to help.with traction while snowclearing.

Tractor has 18.4/24 R4 tires on the rear, but am unable to find chains for that exact size. Am looking at trygg smt flexi chains, and see a set for 16.9/26 tires. It appears this size tire is roughly the same diameter as 18.4/24.

Do you think they are close enough that I could easily make them fit?

I think the 16.9 chains would be too narrow to sit down and tighten up on your 18.4's.

Or a set of 420/85-24's would be very close,

Thanks! I'm clueless about chains. I will look into the 420/85/24 chains

On the Trygg or Aquillian style of chains your width is more important then the length of the chains. A too long set can be shortened easily (kind of), but if they are too narrow for your tires they will not sit down and fasten up snuggly.
The 18.4 in your tire corresponds with the 420 in the metric tire sizes, with the 85 corresponds to the older standard sidewall height. And the 24 being your rim diameter.
The TYRGG SMT's are a very good chain.

Edited; the 420's are not the correct width to match up with an 18.4, needs to be 460/480 to match up in width.

Just curious....

wouldn't 18.9/24 tires have a width of 18.9x25.4 = 480mm?

Wouldn't the 420/85/24 be 420÷25.4=16.5 inches?

Just seems to me that the 420/85/24 chains would be too skinny, by about 2.5 inches?

I see 2 at 480 and one at 420. I would take the 420 as a misprint.

Google "tractor tire conversion charts" and pick a chart that isn't confusing.

I do believe you are correct it looks like the 420 would be an error in the chart.
Just going by the math 18.4 inch comes to 467.36 mm, so a 460 would be close and a 480 would also be close.
