Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1759
I'm in the process of downsizing. We sold the cows and have 1 1/2 horses left.
I got some attachments that I wanna keep.

I'm looking at a nice used 2015 1759 with loader and just over 400 hours on it.
The tractor seems flawless, the engine runs smooth, no complaints about the shuttle shift transmission.

My most important tasks for it is handling the hay bales for the horses and plowing snow in the winter in southern Manitoba.

When I say handling bales, that may include loading or unloading those from a trailer and that possibly two rows high. When I read the spec sheet correct, a 1300 lbs bale might be too much.
Safe the ballast coments, please.

When it comes to snow clearing, I definitely need cold start capability. How does that Mitsubishi start, let's say at -10F?
I know, winter diesel.......

How reliable are these units? I used the search option and surprisingly there are barely any posts about that series tractor.

A few comments: I have zero direct experience with the Mitsubishi engine. In my opinion you are in the sweet spot of buying -- finding one with 400hrs on it that is in good shape. It will likely outlast you and be "just as good as a new one." Tractor Data website lists the 1759 but not 1759L. What is the L about? My own MF2660LP has the LP standing for low profile.

I see on another thread that a guy named dahogman who bought a 1759L in 2017 brand new so he should have plenty of experience with it before now. You should be able to search TBN for that name and see his posts or contact info.

I'm sure (being where you are) you know all the usual tips etc. about cold starting and are just asking how users of the 1759L find it for very cold weather starting. Can't directly help there but will ask: Do you have a place to keep it inside in winter months (even if unheated?) I do have some experience with engine heaters (Vermont ski trips, etc.) I prefer the in-line type that circulates warmed coolant through the entire system rather than plugs and other devices.

Suggest find/borrow/take a set of bale forks to the tractor and test it lifting a good sized bale. No amount of specs or numbers will ever be as instructive as just hooking it up and doing it. Hope/assume this prospective machine has skid-steer compatible quick connect on the loader . If it does you have almost unlimited choices as to gizmos for lifting/moving bales. Same for buckets and snow pushing/moving devices. The 1759 should be very good size running a snowblower of about 6 or 7 ft width.

Is this one a cab or open station?

I have a 2016 1754 that has about 350 hours on it. So far, no problems. It starts ( in the shed) at -10 F no problem. As a matter of fact, I cycle the pre-heat 2-3 times and when I hit the starter, it's running in about 2 compression strokes.
It has a cab and after about 10 minutes, I have to turn the heat down.
It will lift about 2000 pounds but you'll need a counter weight or loaded tires.

Thank you guys who responded so far.
It comes with a block heater.

I know, ballast is a must. I'm gonna fill the tires and during winter it will have a 8ft snow blower on the back.

It will lift 2000 lbs close to ground level.
But how much can I possibly go past 1000 lbs to full height?

I'm gonna throw out the SSQA. All my stuff has Euro style.

Well Euro style is fine (and solid) if you can get the few specific implements you need to fit it. Nothing wrong with that if you can get what you need. A skid steer compatible SSQA gives you access to at least 100 times as many options for things that will fit it. We all have preferences and we pay the prices for what we like.
