Sorry but HP is HP. 20HP = 20HP. Ask anybody here.

Would you rather have 20 HP and 1 ft-lbs of torque in a peaky curve or would you rather have 20 HP and 40 ft-lbs of torque with a broad curve? The torque and the area under the torque curve (how flat it is) is what makes the difference for towing and pulling.

The initial batches of Titans WILL be HD models, then the "regular" editions come. Kinda surprised it's still even on life support given their sales #'s from the first generation. At one point, they were going to be built on the RAM platform.

Being a GM guy, I'm hoping that they'll finally get around to releasing the 4.5L Duramax. Haven't seen anything on it though in a while. Still not sure I even NEED a 2500, let alone a diesel. We get on the land next year, we'll see how my 2013 Silverado 1500 fares. Hasn't failed me yet!

Look at how flat the torque curve is on a 5.3 and 6.2 and the range of rpm that flat area covers. Now look at the diesels and tell us how many rpm wide their torque curve is.
The past history of gasoline engines having low power, low reliability and high fuel consumption was all true until 1987 when a slow progression in the right direction when GM installed fuel injection and lockup torque converters in about that era. With the L05 and L31 engines. The next leap in power and efficiency was port injected gassers in 1999 . Then the gasser came into it's own with direct injection for 2014 where is light duty applications it bests a Tier IV diesel.
The glory days of diesel were 1989-2002 for Cummins and still pretty good until the 2007 emissions regulations and fuel prices.

Now look at the torque curve for a turbo gas engine and you can see how much better the turbo makes it. I will take high HP with high, flat torque curve, thanks.

I wasn't making any negative claims against any engine, just refuting the claim that 20HP = 20HP.

The Ford Mustang GT makes 435 HP. The F250 6.7L diesel makes 440 HP. So, you are saying since 20 HP = 20 HP, essentially 435 HP = 440 HP, so both engines should tow about the same, right? Which one would you rather have in your vehicle to tow 20k lbs?

I would rather have the 5.3 or 6.2 Chev gasser. or the Ford pickup truck gasser instead of the diesel. The Stang engine is setup for a lightweight car.
Why are you having a HP race o drag racing when towing? Why are you racing a loaded truck and trailer ?

Who said I was racing? I said nothing about racing, I said "Which one would you rather have in your vehicle to tow 20k lbs?"

Towing 20k lbs, give me the diesel over the gasser any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. No need to drive fast, the diesel will put plenty of space between the two while it loafs right on past the gas station.

Side note, I love my diesel for towing, but if there is a GTDI engine in a Super Duty when I'm ready to buy again, this will likely be my last diesel, so it's not like I'm a diesel ****. I only tow ~9500 lbs, so I don't need a diesel, but I want more grunt (and relaxed towing) than what the current crop of gassers in the 3/4 ton lineups deliver.

I think Nissan missed the mark a little. Trying to be the biggest and baddest 1/2 ton (Class 1) on the market just made the Titan HD a bland Class 2 truck. I see nothing exceptional about it. Compare it to a 6.7 Cummins, Scorpion or Duramax and it looks a little weak.

I think Ram did it right with the EcoDiesel. 1/2 ton truck with reasonable capacity and outstanding mileage. It sets itself apart because it offers something that the other trucks and class models cannot.

I agree on the 4.5L- release it already...lol

I am thinking I will go 2500HD gasser next time. I am hoping they release a new gas engine and give more gearing choices on the new HD series.

Im still not sold on AFM yet, nor the long term reliability of it.

AFM is horrible. We have a fleet of 2013 and new GM 1/2 tons. Well over 75. Half use oil like crazy and half of those have had bearings, pistons, rings, ect replaced. We have no issues out of our 10 or so non AFM 5.0 F150's.
