Massey Ferguson 1648
Recently purchased a 1648 with Hydrostatic. It doesn't shift into neutral unless I move the FEL up or down while trying to engage the shift lever. Any one else having this issue? How do you fix it? It seems reasonable to expect to be able to shift it into neutral everytime when completely at a stop without having to have to "jimmy" other levers such as the FEL lever to do so.

Are you idleing when trying to shift? Not really familiar with many hydro tractors, but the ones i have run have been hard to shift ranges. My 1648 pwr shuttle shifts good one minute, and is a pain the next, gear bind i guess. I'm fairly certain your tractor's ranges are gear, and without a clutch to disengage it's probably just luck of the draw to get it to mesh properly.

Hi, I own a 1643 HST and often to go to neutral to a gear range you must depress any pedal slightly to increase the oil flow I guess, sometime it is the same to shift from a gear to neutral, it is normal as the repair man I talk to . Have a nice day. Roger

That's a new one! I have a 1643 HST and occasionally, I have some difficulty shifting from one range to the next, but I've never had to play with the loader to get it to get into or out of gear. I only have 25 hours on mine, but I've noticed that the shifting is getting much easier as the hours increase. I'd talk to your dealer. I'm wondering if some of the linkage isn't adjusted correctly?
