Has anyone performed work on their front axle / 4x4 system on a Massey 1652 or similar? (Should be same as 1547, 1648, 1652, 1749, etc...). I've got about 1500 hrs on my 1652. Great machine, no previous issues. During some heavy loader work recently, I've developed an issue with my 4x4. I have a clunk/binding coming from the front with 4x4 engaged. Everything rolls smoothly with 2wd. I feel like the binding is coming from the left wheel, BUT, since it rolls smoothly in 2wd, that makes me think the issue is in my differential or gear box, and not with the left wheel gears itself.

I haven't taken anything apart to diagnose yet (limited time this week) but if anyone has been into their front 4wd system to repair anything, I'm hoping for some insight and experience(s) to help me save time tracking down & repairing the issue.

Thanks in advance.

No, but you might want to crawl under and take a shake/look/feel of the U-joints in the drive shaft to the front end. If very lucky it might be something relatively external like that. Another thing to do for diagnosis is raise the load off the front wheels (FEL maybe?) and see what noises and motions you can create by hand on the wheels. Putting the whole tractor up on jack stands and playing with it under power would be even more instructive but maybe too much & a little risky. Good luck...
