Ford 1510
I have a Ford 1510 (12V system) that while I was replacing the battery, accidentally created a short across both terminals.

It appears this mishap has created a whole set of issues. I have found two known problems: first I have replaced the alternator, as the short blew out the diode bridge, and secondly have replaced the wire from the starter to the alternator, as it appeared damaged due to the short.

My problem is that it after careful examination and inspection; I still have a current draw when I connect the battery. This indicates to me that there still may be a short somewhere. Now when I disconnect the hot wire to the alternator, I have no short (but obviously the tractor will not start).

I am at wits end, and would appreciate any suggestions or perhaps a wiring diagram for the 1510.

Thanks

It is so difficult diagnose, but I suppose I eliminate one by one. I'll look at the wiring harness exposed to see if anything shows sign of burning on the electric tape they used. I hope the diagram below help you. Attached, you can find a wiring diagram from IT-F044 in ref to your tractor.

My first question is do you have an external regulator.

yes, the tractor has an external voltage regulator

I would have the regulator checked or replaced. If the regulator is shorted it will put voltage to the alt when it the ign is off.
