149 front axle

when I purchased my 149 i knew there was a problem with the front axle. The axle has been installed backward, axle pin is backward, pin will not stay in place. When reversed what holds pin in place. And what size are the pin holes thru channel.

Looks like the pin is threaded and has a nut and cotter pin. See diagram:

Bob, your parts diagram is different than mine. My problem is the diagram shows all of the parts and pieces but not how they are put togather as a unit. My daigram clearly shows the pin, it only has a spring pin thru one end but not where it is located once the axle is placed in the channel or axle bracket.

This pix shows a different pin with a hole in the front, I believe, but doesn't show a clip.

Bob, this is the same detail of front axle that I have. Look at the right end of axle pin you will see a small dot, that is a 3/16 hole for a 1 1/4 long spring pin. Trying to find out where it is located once every thing is reinstalled. I have ordered a master shop service manual from Binder Books, hopefully this will tell how all of this is put togather. Thanks for all your info.
