TRS32 axle bolt

FB Marketplace find…TRS32 snowblower I bought to replace my much older 526. It needs some love and I have plans to replace many parts on it. But when I picked it up, the previous owner demonstrated it ran and operated as intended. The problem started when I got it home and used it. It runs and throws snow well, but in a matter of 1 hour of use, I’ve broken 2 bolts that pin the chain drive gear to the axle shaft. Are these supposed to be shear pins, or hardened bolts? Breaking 2 in 2 days doesn’t seem right.

No it doesn't. Parts book shows 2 different versions according to serial numbe and the book doesn't indicate type of bolt
You could show a picture of the coupling.

Parts diagrams seem to split at 14,000. Mine is a >14,000 model. Looking at it a little more today, this thing has been worked over pretty good. The spinning wheel lock assembly on the left wheel is gone, replaced by a lynch pin drilled through the wheel hub and axle. I replaced the bolt with a grade 8 1/4-20 bolt with lock nut and it held for the hour I used it today. I’ve got some work to do with this one!
