... Looks like you've made some good tire upgrades.

The tires are 9.5-16 rear, 6.00-12 front. R1 (Ag) tread.

This is slightly different from what the YM186D Operation Manual specifies. It says rear 9.5-16 and the fronts should be 6-12. I was told by a Yanmar importer that my 6.00-12 fronts are slightly larger than original 6-12 tires.

I see Miller tire lists 6-12, not 6.00-12.

Very interesting that i found this thread. i was wondering the same thing with my 169D. The narrow stance on our hills just doesn't feel safe even with factory ROPS and the seat belt on. I have reversed my front tires once before but was told that it has a greater risk of wearing expensive/hard to get parts so i switched them back.

The fronts might be slightly large. I've been told the original 6-12 tires were a little smaller but are now unobtainable.

I'll check the sizes for my 1401D to see if your setup will fit. Can never have enough traction.

On several models there are different gear ratios, different gear part #'s, that go with the different tire size options.

I suggest research the working circumference of the original and proposed tires before buying anything. The tire companies publish tables for this.

(Obviously on a 4x4, the ratio of front rolling circumference to rear has to come out the same after the tire change).

Good information...I didn't even think about the front/rear circumference ratio.

I've got the original rear tires on mine and since I'm not using them in a rice paddy, they're probably way too agressive. I changed the fronts out not thinking about the ratio, and, in the dirt I don't notice any difference...haven't had them fighting each other on the pavement yet though.

What brand are those tires?

The fronts do indeed look a bit bigger/meatier than the normal.

Have you ever checked rolling circumference, or looked for evidence of altered ratio (front wheel tracks smeared vs rear wheel tracks or etc, when in 4wd).

If they're good on the ratio, they'll be my list.

I revised my post above that you cited, after I found 6-12 tires online but not 6.00-12. Sorry for my error.

4x4 tractor fronts are supposed to have a little bit of 'lead' (pull), so they are still pulling as you turn. (Where the front tires turn on a longer radius than the rear).

Subjectively, these 6.00-12 fronts feel like they have that lead plus a little more besides. It feels fine zig-zagging around among my orchard trees, or with a heavy implement or pallet on the back where the fronts have little traction.

But I usually slip it out of 4wd before I drive straight back up the (dirt) lane.

The rear tires are new (2008) Firestone. The fronts are Nankang (Taiwan) obviously a few years old since shoulders of the cleats are rounded.

I had same problem with tippy! Did exactly what you did and didn't have any problems. The front remained stock.
