A couple of weeks ago I bought a 1300D with a seized camshaft. When I took the engine apart I was surprised by a couple of things. First, on the center camshaft journal, the camshaft rides directly on the block material (no bearing insert). Second, there isn't a pressure oil feed to the center camshaft journal. Apparently this journal is oil-fed by run-off from the head or splash from the crank case.

I'm boring out the center journal on the block and pressing in an oil-lite bronze bearing. I asked the dealer to measure the center journal bore diameter on a good engine (mine had gall marks) and I will make the new bearing ID the same size.

When I talked to a dealer about repairing the camshaft bearing, they suggested putting a groove in the new bearing to help feed oil into the bearing. Sounds like a good idea to me. Thoughts?

Does anyone have experience repairing the center camshaft journal? Any suggestions on how much press fit to ensure the new bearing stays in (I'm also using a bearing adhesive)? Any suggestions on clearance between cam and bearing?

thanks
