Tractor
1025r
I am new to tractors. we bought 20 acres in central illinois 2 years ago and we bought a brand new 2018 1025R, I bought this mostly for mowing. I have since bought a zero turn lawn mower, so I dont use the 1025r for mowing. and now some of the chores I have around my property the 1025r is struggling with. My 1025R has 39 hrs on it, I have the lower mower deck and a box blade. I want to trade it for a 2016 3046R with 400 hours on it. they are offering me $13000 for my tractor, and they are asking $25500. the 3046r has turf tires on it. I really no nothing about this so My ? is this a pretty good deal.

Does the 1025R have a loader? Does the 3046r have a loader on it?

$13K sounds good for your 1025R. I friend bought a used 1023E with loader, deck and rototiller that had 100hours for $13K Since you did not mention a loader, $13 sounds like you are getting a good price for yours.
No idea on the 3046R value.

I believe I found the 3046R on tractor house. I have not seen many 3000 series tractors rear wheel weights on them.
It looks like a new tractor. That looks like a good deal to me.

I am new to tractors.

Subcompact and relatively narrow stance compact tractors under 3,000 pounds bare weight operate in landscape, kitchen/commercial garden or hobby farm applications on one to ten flat acres.

If your are going to farm twenty acres consider a Deere model 1,000 pounds heavier than 3046R model. A 3,900 pound bare weight tractor approximately 66" wide will be able to utilize 72" wide implements rather than 60" implements.

Tractors are inherently unstable operating on sloped or uneven ground. Tractor rear wheel/tire spread, sometimes adjustable, is a critical factor increasing compact tractor stability. Rear axle is the tractor component on which rear wheels/tires mount. A 6" to 10" wider rear axle substantially decreases tractor rollover potential. Tractor rear tread, the distance from the center of one rear tire to the center of the other rear tire, is an approximation of rear axle width.

When considering a tractor purchase bare tractor weight first, tractor horsepower second, rear axle width third, rear wheel/tire ballast fourth.

If the 3046R has a loader, it sounds like a good deal. The list price for new with loader is about 38K. Without a loader it's about 32K so not such a good deal. Also, you absolutely will need the loader. My only concern would be the turf tires. For general work on 20 acres, they aren't nearly as good as R4s or R1s.

20 acres. Go with 3046R. You'll wear your smaller machine out if your using it all the time. Not sure what work and chores you are doing exactly. However, recent example, I rented a man lift and took down a 60ft elm tree. I have the 72" 4 and 1 bucket. Cut the big limbs up into 7 foot chunks and hauled it off to be burned after it dries. Trunk was cut into 3.5-4 ft lengths and maxed out the tractor when moving. Branches are already ash. No way I could have done that with a smaller unit..er...tractor. Often times I wish I had a smaller tractor (with bucket) to jog around the yard for various, less massive, things and not have to worry about weight etc, but the capacity and effectiveness of the larger machine far outweighs the desire for the smaller one. Unsure if you are east (black soil) or west (more sandy soil), but if anywhere near east and you want to do dirt work, again weight is your friend. How's it go here? Figure out what tractor size you need and then go up 1 size and you will not be disappointed. Don't get me started on what can be done with pallet forks. There are whole threads here for that. Again, bigger machine = more options for moving heavy stuff.

Thanks for all the advice. Sorry I did not mention that both tractors have loaders on them. My property consists of mostly wooded area, approx %75 of my land. so sometimes moving large fallen trees. I am about 20 miles east of effingham il. seems like a lot of my land is clay.
