What!? You mean you don't use baling twine to tie the PTO shaft safety chain to the lift arm?

That's funny. I have noticed those loops on my old tractor's lift arms for a few decades now, and I never stopped to think that was what they are for.

My old MF has those holder loops. A great way to lose a pin. Drive over some brush or tall grass, ring gets opened, and ‘poof’ it’s gone.

Ouch clips, particularly when they hit the thumbnail.

Some lynch pins are a pain in the arse. Flip em one way and they stay tight, flip em the other way to lock and they'll slide out on you. I've lost em from cultivater wheels to three point hitch attachments. Next time at the tractor store buy an assortment for your equipment. And on your finding that pin, check all around. I just found one on top of my 3 pt. quick attach bar, but be dammed where it came from. Maybe I left an extra one or somethimg. Wife might be right... I need Previgen memorey meds. lol

Walk around your loader and have a look at the all the pins and you should see more of these. Must be one missing on one of the pins.

They sell lynch pins that are stronger. If there is a Tractor supply store you will see some that are darker, black in color. These have a stiffer spring and will fall off less often. They cost a little more, just pay more attention to finger placement.

Was there anyone around while you were working? I have a neighbor that brags about how his tractor is better and cleaner and blah blah blah. When he is working on a project with his tractor, I go over to 'talk' and drop a few lynch pins (heavily used) along with other items on the ground where he can find them. My cellular game camera records him crawling all over his tractor for hours looking for where the pins or parts came from.

As far as the Fallopian tubes, when I was still working in the OR, we used to tell the new scrub nurses/OR Techs we would need some for the next days surgeries. The whole hospital was in on the gag and would send them from one end to the other trying to find them. The smarter ones would realize what was going on after the second or third stop, others would be sent from the lab, maternity, CMS, OBGYN, ER, etc, etc. until someone finally let them in on the fun - kill joys!

Don't they have to take anatomy classes? I'm surprised so many don't know what a fallopian tube is.

Amazing thing with folks right out of school (be it a trade school, apprenticeship or college), they want to prove themselves so much to their peers that they don't even hear what they are asking for - or at least it doesn't register. Most have said that they recalled hearing the term (tubes, wrenches, etc), but didn't put two & two together at the time. When they figure it out, they usually have a good laugh and are ready & waiting to spring the gag on the next "green" person through the door.

I found a pair of garden shears that way once. Right through the sidewall on a 255/45R20 summer tire. Car had AWD so we had to replace all 4 tires. Luckily it was almost due for new ones, but that one hurt the old wallet a bit.

Yep. The first thing a new tractor owner should buy is a bunch of assorted lynchpin, clevis pins, cotter pins, and a few hillmans. Also replacement bolts in various sizes for the rotary cutter (that are going to shake loose and fall out while operating).

New vocabulary for you. That is a LYNCH PIN.

I call them finger pinchers. The spring loaded ring with me at least, has a bad habit if getting a finger top when I roll it back to the locked position. I much prefer hairpin clips but they don't always work in many applications and unlike Lynch pin locks they don't 'vanish' when being used either.

Far as I can tell today, kids learn nothing educational in public high school other than playing sports which for most will net them zip on real life and playing other so called 'educational' games that will net them nothing either. This up and coming generation is going to have a difficult time adapting to the 'way it works' in real life I fear.

I know locally at least, sports are always the paramount thing and that nets kids really nothing today, certainly not preparing them for real life.

Not my experience. My two sons did play high school sports, but they also learned math and science, Spanish, and went on to Masters and PhD in college. They didn’t need remedial classes in college. A small rural public high school with poor facilities but good teachers.
