They all look about the same to me.

I just hope these dopes finally get a clue and make exhaust brakes available in the SRW's.
A true diesel gauge package (EGT & boost) built into the speedo cluster (not some dopey a-pillar pod that causes more of a blind spot) would be great, too.

If not, I'm buying a 4500/5500 4x4 Kodiak for work and a crewcab gasser 4x4 to run around in.

I have to agree with 100% on the looks. I will say the GMC truck looks better than the Chevy. That is why one of the reasons I keep the 2006 and 2004 Ford SuperDutys we have. I am also ready not with the DPF stuff.

Chris

I think up until now, the GMC looked better than the Chevy. Especially Builder's GMC style. However, I believe that the current Chevy looks a WHOLE LOT better than GMC. Just my opinion on this...

Like you said that is your opinion, but the Chevy has a awful looking bumper. I am a Ford Guy but can not learn to love those ugly head lights they put on the new SuperDutys. All in all I think the Dodge looks the best in the HD trucks. When it comes to 1/2 tons the Toys and Nissians look pretty good followed by all the rest in my eyes. Like you said, its just a opinion. Again thats why everyone makes them different. Everyone has different likes.

Ive read that the chevy/gmc trucks are all going to look like the 1500s so if thats true the gmc would be my choise, but not for a diesel I would stick with the cummins because it dont have the UREA injection. Like i said if dodge is still around that will be my next truck with the 6speed auto.

When I bought my F250 with the V-10 engine I felt like I was settling for the gasser instead of the diesel I really wanted. I got over that feeling pretty quick. I've never needed to tow anything that it couldn't tow. I have friends with both the 5.4L and the 7.3 diesel. I get as good or better mileage than any of them do. It has aluminum heads as do all of the Triton engines. Therefore it can spit plugs. I worked for twenty years in the marine industry where aluminum heads were and still are the rule. They will all spit plugs if the plugs are over torqued. My truck is now ten years old, and in spite of having ten plugs, it has never spit one. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm betting it has more to do with proper torque. In all my years as a marine tech I never stripped a plug, and I installed thousands of them. I repaired hundreds of heads though where some one else over torqued. Trust me if you will, it doesn't have to be a Ford V-10.

I'd rate "looks" as about one of the last things I'm concerned with when buying a truck. I'm not trying to win a beauty contest or look the most macho or drive the most jacked up truck. That crap is for kids trying to get attention from girls or guys trying to make up for something they're lacking. :D

I buy a truck to reliably perform my work needs to put food on the table. I do like power under the hood, because, I grew up driving HD trucks with less than 200HP back in the early 80's. That left me never wanting to be underpowered anymore.

I also like thoughful engineering, gradient braking, VVT turbos, rears that really lock, etc.

Update to you all I guess. LOL

im still not sure if i will buy the diesel or not Im thinking of getting a GMC 03-07 2500HD with the 6.0liter V8 for the time being. Then there is a rumor when the 2010 trucks come out this fall theres going to be a bigger gas motor thinking it will be the 6.2 then i think that will be my next truck. HAHA

The 6.2 is already in the Escalade.

403HP :D It will move to the HD in '010. Imagine that puppy with a 6 speed Ally.

my uncle has one in his denali and it moves cant wait to see what it will do in a heavy duty. For now though i think im going to get a GMC 6.0liter cause this cummins i got doesnt impress me.

If you are not impressed with a Cummins you are a hard man to please. What is impressive about the 6.0 gas GM motor? Its a ok motor, but far from impressive.

well the cummins in the truck i gots junk has no power what so ever even has a chip in it and it just fells slugish. Ive drove the 6.0liter many times and it might not have the torque of a diesel but its one **** of a motor.

I'd say 320HP from a 6L engine is pretty impressive.

Actually, it looks like the 403HP 6.2L will be offered in the '09. That looks really impressive. More HP than a V-10 Ford with less displacement.

I guess I have been spoiled by my HEMI but that is not impressive at all. My 2003 Ram V8 5.7l makes 345hp & 375 lb.ft. that is 1 HP per CU IN. The new HEMI 5.7l engine makes 390hp and 410 lb.ft., that is impressive! The HEMI 6.1l engine makes 425hp and 420 lb.ft. but is only available in the Charger, for now.

Say what you want about the HEMI but others still cannot make an engine that produces that kind of horsepower per cubic inch (normally aspirated). There is no denying that it is an incredible engine.

Ive said this before and i will say it again the hemi dont belong in a truck its a great car motor it just doesnt have the lowend like the GM motors.

320 HP and 375 # ft of torque is not impressive anymore. Dodge is making 383 HP and 404# ft of torque out of the 5.7 Hemi. Toyota is making 381 HP and 404 # ft of torque out of its 5.7 I-Force. The Nissan is making 317 HP and 385 # ft of torque out of its Endurance 5.6. The 5.4 Ford Triton is making 320HP and 390 #ft of torque.

So as you can see every other manufacture is making equal to or better than numbers with less displacement.

I never said the 6.0 was not a good engine. It seems to be a very reliable and strong power plant, just lacks on the torque for its displacement. Its just not impressive anymore. The 6.2 is a different beast and is very impressive. Again this is just a numbers game. If one company comes up with a new engine they all do a year later. You laugh at Ford for coming up with gimmicks like steps and brake controllers but that sells trucks and the others follow a few years later.

This will never change. They all have to look at what the others are doing and follow to survive.

the 6.0liter is a little out dated still a great motor though. Now like you said the 6.2 is a new beast and cant wait to see it in the heavy dutys.

You said it there. The 6.2 is a beast. Actually all the manufactures have new engines on the way out like the Ford 777 and the new Dodge Hemi 6.1. Take a look at all them and make your own conclusions. I still can not believe you are not happy with the Cummins. Even Ford and GM guys love and respect the Cummins.

You and Builder seem to see eye to eye on things but I just caution you to read through the BS and look up the facts for yourself. You seem like a smart kid so get on the net and research. Don't listen to sites like these because everyone has a opinion, including me, and they are just that, a opinion.

yea ive been doing alot of research on all the big three. Dont get me wrong the cummins is a great motor this one just seems to be a lemon or something, the 6.7 at work is really nice.

If GM's current '09 6.2L is making 403/417 isn't that better ALL other V-8 engines you listed above?

Last time I checked, 403HP is greater than 383, 381, 320 and 317 HP.

Last time I checked, 417TQ is greater than 404, 390 & 385 TQ, too.

Why are we comparing last year's GM motor to this years competition? Is that the only way you have to make GM look bad?
The 6L is an optional engine one step down from the 6.2L.

Why difference does HP/cubic inch make? If you knew anything about trucks, you'd know that more rotating mass is desireable in a truck.

To me, looks like Ford is the big loser. They're the only one with bigger displacement and a V-10 that can't even make 400HP.
