That is a monster plow. The GMC trucks just look so much better in the front then the Chevy counter parts. What kind of plow is that?

The plow is a BOSS 9ft 2in V XT the truck handles the plow well its got a level kit in the front to help out. it comes with the plow, but not the spreader I got a snow ex pro vee 6000 for a spreader. Yes the GMC always looked better then the chevy.

Man that's a big plow for a 3/4 ton. Great looking plow, too.
I used to run 8'-6" or 9' Western Proplows on my Superduty F-350s. I would almost always have to add some kind of suspension assistance to the front of them, too. My favorite was the "Jack it" leveling kit. Plowing really beats up the front suspension and they would show signs of sagging after a few years.

got a level kit and aftermarket heavy duty shocks so its helps the key is though not to beat them like alot of people do go out and plow easy and you will be fine. Heck im sure you know that.

Do some reading on that LLY. Its the least desirable of the Dmax enginge.

Chris

Actually, YOU may want to go back and buff up some more on your duramax knowledge. The LB7 is the least desirable as the injectors are under the rocker arm covers and it is an 8 hour job for the pro's and a 16 to 20 hour job for us shade tree types.

The LLY had the above listed issues with over heating, but that is pretty easy to fix and not too expensive. The VVT in the LLY gives better low end torque compared to the straight vane LB7 turbo. As with all diesels, the older tech ones get the best mpg's, so there is that trade off too. (Unless you accidentally scrub off some of the emissions equipment on a tall bump....)

You are correct, the LB7 which is what I had, were a head ache. I had constant problem of leaking injectors which lead to diluted oil among other issues. I had mine in the shop 3 times for this problem. They assured me it was no big deal but I always wondered what damage was done to internal bearings running in diluted oil?

The LLY has not had the best reputation either. It has had head gasket problems, and over heating problems which GM now owns up to and covers under warranty. There were also glow plug issues that seemed to be cured once replace. The late LLY which only ran for about a year fixed most of these problems and carried over to the best Dmax out there, the LBZ.

Chris, I re-read my note and it seems to be "grumpy". I was aiming for "cheeky", and missed completely. Hope you took it that way!

(By the way, I know the LB7 is the least loved as I own one)

I know the LB7 was a problem early on, but once fixed and fixed right they seemed to be a good engine. I believe the problem I had with reoccurring was due to the guy doing the wrenching.

The LLY can be a good engine also if modified but in its original form and worked hard it will have real problems. The head gasket issue in my view would not be there if there was no overheating although many blame it on the aluminum heads.

Anyway, no harm no foul JB.

I feel some ford/chevy hate going on here. all the dmax motors are great some have there little probs but are fixed and work great my uncle just got rid of his LB7 with 248,000miles with just injectors replaced and thats it. Dads got a LMM had probs in the begining with EPA b.s. but the DPF and EGR fell off somewere. HAHA My uncle has the LLY now and he loves it more then the LB7 has and intake, exhaust, and chip on the way for it and i think im going to buy a LLY. the LBZ is a great motor aswell.

I don't really hate any of them, I just think some are better choices than others.

I was a long time Ford loyalist and owner since the mid 80's. When I first bought my '07 GMC and took it to my mechanic to get its' state inspection, his first comment to me was "I think you made a smart choice switching from Ford diesels to a Duramax". And he's a big Ford guy.

But if Ford makes a better truck than GM in the future, I'll go right back to them. If Dodge is better, I'll switch to them, too.

Brand loyalty is so stupid. Why not just buy the best truck at the time you're buying? What benefit is there to just blindly sticking to one brand?

Took me too long to figure that out.

they just released pics of the 2010 Ram heavy duty. have you seen them? wow, what a dissapointment! i've never been a Dodge fan, but always respected the Cummins engine. however, these new trucks are U-G-L-Y and have completely lost that "bold" look they had. ofcourse this is just my opnion, and like they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I don't see any change in the looks of the 2009 Dodge Ram and 2010 Dodge Ram. Personally, I think the Dodge is the best looking out of the big three for heavy duty trucks. The Chevy has a good design from the headlights up but that bumper is just hideous and looks like a big chrome plow. The Ford is nice looking but the headlights are just stupid looking and too big. I think the Dodge has a great tough look, they started the raised hood look back in the mid-90's Ram and still have the others beat in looks to me.

do you have a link to the new ram?

I have to agree with 100% on the looks. I will say the GMC truck looks better than the Chevy. That is why one of the reasons I keep the 2006 and 2004 Ford SuperDutys we have. I am also ready not with the DPF stuff.
