I've not had a chance to trouble shoot the original tach in my tractor. The needle goes all over the place, up and down, it act like it tries to work ever so often, then sometime just goes to zero and stays there. Should I be thinking about a aftermarket replacement if so, what brand model and where to purchase? Would I need the sender and the head together? Is the original maybe okay and needs a new sender? As you can tell by my questions I'm not the greatest electrical gauge repair person any thoughts as where to start? bjr

I would try to adjust your tach sender first, with the tractor off, loosen the sender ,screw it in until it touchs the flywheel, back it off 1/2 turn. Start the tractor and see if it works. It could be either the sender or the complete tach unit, we keep both in stock

Let me know if we can help or give us a call 979-865-4002

Good chance Tommy's right, that's the usual problem. That, or it's been screwed in too far and the sensor tip is damaged. But another possibility is that the sender ground is compromised. Even though it looks like there's only one wire coming out, it's actually a sheath with two wires inside. Follow them both all the way to their ultimate destinations. If either one has had some insulation rubbed off, it could be intermittently shorting against metal someplace.
