I have yet to even get mine out from behind my boat... but that'll have to happen soon. I'm still involved in picking up the thousands of tree limbs, branches, twigs, etc off my lawn. We had a very windy winter!

What have you done with/to your GC Series 2300, 2400, 1700 Tractor TODAY

Well, it's official: as of this morning, all snow --all piles-- are now gone. Removed blower, put on FEL to move a large branch that fell down next to my BH last winter, moved my pile of rocks to rebuild my summer cooking fireplace, then "aerated" parts of the lawn with my spiked chains. Grass...

Still a few piles here & there up on the hill in Etna (NH), but disappearing fast at this point. The local independent weather guy my daughter follows has us firmly in the "NOT YET" category for removing snow plow stuff. Guess it won't hurt to leave the blower on for a bit....

So about 10" now; wind has finally died down and temps are rising (currently 30+). Hit driveway with the blower -- pretty wet, heavy stuff, but it handled it. As it's still coming down, I'll have to hit it again later, methinks....

OK, just now up -- slept in, no school for grandkid, daughter can work from home, and took my first look outside. Not all that much snow, but it started as a freezing rain, so crusty on the bottom. Maybe 5" or a bit more --so far-- so that's not too bad... but it's supposed to continue snowing...

So here we go again... another "complex" storm with snow beginning Wed morning and continuing until Friday morning -- a lot like the last one, but one day (of the week) sooner. Weather people are still refining forecasts, but the expected snow is beginning to get up there -- now up from an...

Years ago.... back in the late 60s... I had a Swedish girlfriend. Having a west-coast maritime climate, Sweden is...

So I guess it's all over now.... It never --or only occasionally-- snowed heavily here, but it did snow continuously -- from around midnight Friday until around 10PM Saturday. Looks like we got around 19-20" here. Lots of wind, some places the snow was 24-25", some places "only" 15".... It...

Yep, mine's warming up now; we got just enough (about 2-1/2") to justify using the tractor/blower. Should only take about 1/2 hr to get everything cleaned up. It's been a light year for snow in the CT River Valley of NH -- I don't think we have more than 6" on the ground at the moment.

Been a while for me, too. Had it about ready to go yesterday AM, then decided it was little enough snow that I used my 3' garage-floor squeegee to push the snow off to the side. Works well (driveway's paved), only takes about 1/2 hr to hit the whole driveway. As soon as the sun began to come...

Well, "the kids" got that weather station for me a few years back. I am convinced, however, that its wind speed always reads lower than actual. My experience has been similar to Ken's -- when I first got it, I left the BH on, mainly for traction -- and that does help. Guess I'm with hube2 on this -- I still have a good foot of snow all over, and I can recall many times when we've been hit with a big snowstorm in April (and a few in May!). My blower stays put for now -- mounted & ready to roll. :)

Wow... wonder how much it would cost for someone on the US west coast to buy it here and mail it to you... I've done the same for some hard-to-get airplane parts for folks in Europe -- postage, import duty, etc wasn't cheap.

Thanks, Dave. I was going to say that... really! (I have the 2325, figured that's what boatboat had, too.) For a jen-yoo-ine M-F part, that's pretty reasonable!

I've never replaced mine, and my mower deck is still buried in winter storage -- I assume you'd like the bearing mfr number, not the Massey-Ferguson part number? (I'm guessing the mower deck for my 2300 is the same as for the 2400 tractors...)

No, I never did rebuild it, because I never had the problem of that shaft coming off. Still have the yoke piece with the longer splined section, but haven't ever needed it. Still have the original parts on the driveshaft & quick-hitch assy -- but I DO check that shaft whenever I service it to...

    Massey 1526 won't start

Not sure about a 1526, but late GC2300 series had an issue with ground cables breaking. You might want to check that -- symptoms are the same. All dash lights, etc but no crank. Seat switch on my GC is NC, BTW.

Cold weather start, with glow plugs and block heater. Why does my tractor not start at minus 20 C?

"Never been able to figure out why there is such a difference between these." Ditto. I've tried advancing my throttle slightly --as Ray has suggested numerous times-- when she becomes obstinate... but that seems to make no difference. (I generally leave throttle at idle when starting.) I was...

Cold weather start, with glow plugs and block heater. Why does my tractor not start at minus 20 C?

Ray -- NAHH-HH-H! I'll admit the battery in my '05 Jetta TDI Wagon was last replaced in Dec of 2013 (8 yrs) and is now (apparently) due for another change... but that tractor's battery is still holding up amazingly well. No plans to swap it... yet. Today, temps were milder (starting at -2...

Cold weather start, with glow plugs and block heater. Why does my tractor not start at minus 20 C?

I was in the same situation over on this side of the CT River... No amount of block heater, a blanket over the hood, battery charger, heat gun (even aimed down the air intake)... and yes, I hate to admit it, but a quick shot of ether in the air inlet tube... Nada, except for some farting. All...

What have you done with/to your GC Series 2300, 2400, 1700 Tractor TODAY

It used to be! When I was in Monterey from '74-'76, I'd often go to see brother in Carson City. Overnight snowfalls in the Sierras were often 3 feet or more back then.

    GC 2410 belt change help

Sorry, that was me that said there was a nut on that driveshaft... but no, there isn't, just that bolt, if I'm getting the picture right here. Sounds like your shaft splines may be rusted/stuck there. Try some PB Blaster or similar, let it soak a few days.... Wow-- memories: "Great Town...

Cold weather start, with glow plugs and block heater. Why does my tractor not start at minus 20 C?

If it's any consolation -- when temp here in NH hits -20F (-28C), there's not much I can do to get my tractor running unless I: 1) Apply block heater for 3-4 hrs 2) Put a blanket over the whole hood & vent screens to keep heat in 3) Hook up a battery charger 4) Apply glow plugs at least twice...

    1723 Loader Valve Float Detent

My 2310 still does that and always has. I've taken it apart, cleaned & greased it.. and it still pops out. I just drive it with my right hand on it all the time when blowing snow. I've found that's very easy to get used to.

MF GC2310 FEL not keeping tractor up and weak BH arms

You know, it almost sounds like the float valve is open. Are you pushing the joystick far enough forward that you're engaging the float function? (Or is the valve permanently in float?) Where in NH?

Can't disconect my Quick Conect Coupler Loader 1520

Ipakiz, thanks for clueing me in. I wasn't aware; this forum generally does a great job at keeping things civil. The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

Fantastic! I just now looked at your posts (nice job cleaning it up, BTW!) and noticed that your "cap" assembly has FOUR screws to remove it, in TWO sections, correct? Mine has just two long screws and is only one piece -- so yours is, in fact, different than mine. Same principle, but yours...

Can't disconect my Quick Conect Coupler Loader 1520

You could also maybe use some tin snips (or really heavy scissors, or a jigsaw...?) to cut away the plastic around the fittings so you could access the male parts of the couplers..? Just thinking out loud here. Or, work again at getting those four bolts & nuts off the plastic cover so it could...

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

Oops.. my bad! I see in his 3rd pic where the plunger --and its spring-- is sticking out, just like mine. I guess there are two parts to that assembly; inner section removed in 3rd pic but not in 2nd one. When I had mine apart, it was back in 2008!
  175. irvingj

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

No, he's got it. In the bottom of that cap he's holding is where the c-clip is (split ring) that's supposed to hold the plunger in the float position -- that groove at the end of the plunger is supposed to pop into that split ring. My guess is that with everything as dry as it is, it won't go...

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

Thanks!! I see it now; here's another video explaining the two types. What I have are the older version ("they've been around for decades..."), called Pioneer couplings, that have a moveable locking collar that needs to be pulled back (in most cases), or pushed forward, to connect or release...
  177. irvingj

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

The locking collar doesn't move?? I beg to differ. I'm no hydraulic expert, but my hoses will not connect or disconnect unless that outer collar -- maybe that's not the right term?-- is first either pulled back or pushed forward, at least on my FEL connectors. On the blower, the collars only...

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

Yes, you're right, those two socket-head screws on the larger (deeper) of the two round black things hanging down under there. Removing those will allow you to drop down the float detent socket assembly. And yes, my OEM Massey-Ferguson hydraulic couplers will release in either direction -- and...

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

So I just went out to my tractor to confirm above -- I now have the blower attached, and apparently that has slightly different connectors, which do NOT go either up or down to release. My FEL connectors, however, DO release in either direction. Your FEL connectors do look like my FEL connectors.
  180. irvingj

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

One other thing you could try: Remember I said earlier that those valves will release by moving the outer sleeve either up OR down? Assuming it's rusted inside, try a small drift punch & a small hammer on the top of the sleeve to try to break it loose by going DOWN. That might just break it...
  181. irvingj

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

If you're interested, here's a close-up of the inside of the control valve. When you push the joystick forward, past the "GO UP" portion, a plunger will go down into that socket; the grooved end of it is supposed to click into that snap-ring and stay there (though they often don't). That is the...

  184. irvingj

The loader on my 1528 (FL1520) can't find the float position

Try pushing down on the top of the elbow as you pull up on the locking collar. I find I need to do that on my 2310, which uses the same connectors. It seems to relieve internal spring pressure in the connector. As far as the float, that's a plunger that pushes down into a release valve on the...

Can't disconect my Quick Conect Coupler Loader 1520

Those are the same connectors as on my 2310. They can move either up or down to release, but when they're connected you don't have room to easily move them downward -- so pull them UP to release, while pushing down on the elbow above to relieve the spring pressure inside the connector. PS-- you...

Dave, that issue is relatively common, with newer GC models; I've never had a freeze-up in my old 2310. Glad you could sort it out "easily"! So-- over here, I'm getting real tired of these "roller-coaster" winters we've had over the past few years... You know, starts out as rain, temps drop...

    mf2320 mower gauge wheel

Got the pins from Grainger yesterday, and my assumption was correct, they need to be 5mm. Old new ones (3/16) came out very easily; suspect I could have pulled them out with a pair of needle-nose pliers so they probably wouldn't have lasted long. New 5mm pins definitely needed some force to tap...

Let me know if you need more pics or measurement stuff. Glad to help; I also think this is the easiest way -- only requires a couple of weatherized --rubber covered-- polarity-reversing momentary switches. (You already have that open worm-gear thing for your manual turning arrangement, right?)

    mf2320 mower gauge wheel

I had a different set of problems with my 2325 MMM. The paint on mine has held up well, but I noticed that the plastic parts (around the sides, below hood) showed a fair bit of fade after only 2 years. I don't park it in the sun any more.
