Manuals- Service, owners, etc (If you need diagrams)

I was looking for switched power for the hydraulic diverter valve installation on my Mahindra 1538. I saw this post (and related ones) and took a look at the wiring behind the dash. I wanted a larger wire so that I wouldn't run the risk of overloading that circuit. Probably didn't need to as the...

    Call before you dig

Not really a locate/digging story, but will put it out here anyway. Years ago we lived in a subdivision where all the electric was underground. One nite a drunk clobbered the transformer that serviced our house. The utility got things all fixed up by about 3 am. But over the next several months...

    Call before you dig

Back when I was in charge of taking care of our subdivision roads, we had several projects that required locates. This is in rural Colorado. I knew our excavator well and to save his time and our money, I was the one who called in the locates. First couple of years was no problem. I would spec...

    Lower Radiator Hose Block Heater

Here is another data point. My Mahindra 1538 has a fitting inline to the lower radiator hose. It has two ports, one for a heater for the coolant and I'm thinking the other port is for the heater in the cab version. Seems like the factory thought that a heater in the lower rad hose was a good...

    1538 Cold Start Issues

Your 2555 may not have the same lower hose setup as the 1500 series tractors. The lower hose on the 1500 series tractors has an inline fitting. I'm guessing it is primarily there for the cab tractors (heater supply or return), but is there for the non cab tractors also. There is a 3/4" NPT port...

    1538 Cold Start Issues

Yes, I've tried that a couple times. Sometimes still won't start. I think the intake heater can't stay ahead of the cold air being sucked in until the combustion chambers warm up enough. Block heater will probably get the job done. Will have to wait for warmer weather to install it. Hope I can...

    1538 Cold Start Issues

I hear ya. I have a battery tender on it. Kinda wish I would have gotten one with a cab. But having a cab would have caused issues with how I've used the tractor in the past. Best I can do is long johns, insulated coveralls, electric gloves and socks. Does get damn cold in the seat.

    1538 Cold Start Issues

I've had this 1538 HST for several years. When temps get below +15F this thing is hard to start. Last winter I looked into things a bit. Found out the 1538 has an intake heater, not glow plugs. Verified that the intake heater does work. I was kind of surprised that glow plugs were not used. My...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

Thanks Brian I went down to the tractor to take a look at how the hoses are routed. Deja vu cause I had to figure this all out when I did the remote and the brain cells that were supposed to hold that info have since died. Appears I will have to splice in an extension to get the Supply up to...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

Hey Brian, thanks for the reply and good to hear from you again. I have not as yet connected the return lines with a tee. Was kind of unsure whether or not something would get backfed. So what I've been doing is connecting the tractor supply lines to the remote when I want to use the top/tilt...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

Back again After a big snow this last spring, I bought a snow/dirt blade to mount up to the SSQA on the front of the tractor. It has a cylinder to change the angle of the blade. Since I never plan on having the top/tilt hardware on while running the front blade, I use one of the top/tilt line...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

I fab'd the bracket from Home Depot steel and welded them together with a Harbor Freight MIG welder. I thought I might have a nice arm rest, but things get way too hot once hydraulic fluid has been running through the system for a while. Will probably come up with some sort of pad.

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

I started off by determining where I wanted the control levers to be, then worked things backwards. For these pictures, the BH is mounted so I did not include pictures of the supply hoses being connected to the valve. Also, I don't know about your 1533, but on my 1538 the hydraulics bleed down...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

Took me a while to find the valve you had selected on Summit's website, P40G-3K16. Yes, those two items would get you started for a 3 valve setup with float on all three. Picture threw me off also as what they put there is for a solenoid valve. I see that the power beyond adapter is once again...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

Back when I was chatting with Brian at Fit Rite Hydraulics, his lead time was longer than 6 months. So I sourced the parts to build a system myself. As you had mentioned, you do have a BH on your 1533, so your three hoses back there are Pressure, Return and Power Beyond to run your BH. When...

1538 with BH - what is needed for a 3 pt top and tilt

I've got a 2016 1538 with a loader and a backhoe. After last years monumental futzing around with a scraper blade trying to pull driveway ditches, I'm considering adding top and tilt to the 3pt. I've searched forums here and looked at some YouTube vids, but things aren't clicking for me. To run...

    Mehindra diesel hard starting

Nice write up. I think my 1538 has a similar issue. Had no problems starting last winter. We had a pretty good snow this year and I got my Razr with a 6' snow blade stuck in the driveway. Went to start the 1538 and while it spun over quickly, motor would just fire occasionally on one or two...

Kubota L2501 Turbo: A Journey Defined - The Tractor, The Comparison, The Modification, The Results

Hey Mike, You did a super job on the 2501. I would like to do the turbo-normalize thing just to get the engine back to sea level rated power while operating at our 8200'. I haven't looked at any detail in how the Bosch ECU handles air mass flow going into the engine. The engine is Final Tier 4...

Kubota L2501 Turbo: A Journey Defined - The Tractor, The Comparison, The Modification, The Results

My property is at 8200' in Colorado. I sure would like my Mahindra 1538 to be able to make sea level horsepower! But it has all that emissions crap on the engine so I'm probably stuck with having to deal with the power loss.

Looking for rear blade for 1538

I've already noticed that problem even with the top link mounted in the upper hole. The blade frame is pitched down when the blade is on the ground. Next time I mount the blade, I'm going to try the upper holes on the side links to see if that will level out the frame when the blade is touching...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

As I get older, my bulb gets dimmer. Yes, there are other holes in the side links. I went to the middle holes and got more lift. May end up going with the upper hole set. The tractor does have three holes to attach the top link. Not sure switching holes will help much cause when I have the blade...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

Not a complete fail, but borderline. Things have been warming up with intermittent cold spells. Yesterday my son and I put together the 3 pt linkages and assembled the Bison blade. I made three passes along the sides of my driveway with some difficulty, but at least I got some time in with the...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

Well, this story comes to an end - for now. I've got a Bison NVH-210-T sitting in the bed of my truck, still in the crate. I'm gonna guess that this forum has some sort of policy regarding not displaying prices. I priced out an EA blade with shipping to a freight terminal 80 miles away. The EA...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

Kinda small world for my 1538. I bought it as a repo from a dealer in Gallup. It was sold originally by L&R. L&R is 400 miles from me. I haven't been in town for a couple days, but back then diesel was $4.29, probably close to $5 by now. Thanks for letting me know about your good experience...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

Brian, That is a great looking setup. I just don't think I would do enough work with it though to warrant the cost. I've got an airplane that occasionally demands large infusions of money. And then last fall I put $6k of parts into my Duramax because of a failed head gasket (I did the labor)...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

Thanks for the info Brian. I've been spending a bunch of time doing research - but my time expended has not been very efficient. Learning as I go. Going down a lot of dead ends. Was hoping to find something used, but there isn't much of anything available out here locally. Nearest used Bison...

Looking for rear blade for 1538

I would like some opinions on obtaining a rear blade for my 1538. I've got a 1/4 mile driveway (steep) than I need to reshape the ditches on. I haven't done any significant ditch work since the drive was cut in 6 years ago. Ditches are filling in in a couple of places and I need to also pull...

Need 1538 3 point top link dimensions

Thanks for the idea. Last time I was at dealer they only had one or two of the smaller tractors, but I guess if those tractors had a Cat 1 on them it should be the same. Not sure when I would get over there, they are 80 miles away.

Need 1538 3 point top link dimensions

When I bought my repo 1538, it was missing the top link of the 3 point. I thought 'Eh, I'll pick one up later". Talked with local dealer and OMG - about $600 for the pieces not including the pins. Looks like Cub Cadet uses the same parts for their 3 point, but I'm not sure about ordering from a...

1538 rear axle won't stay locked

I talked to a shop about this. There is an adjustment on the right side near the axle tube. I took a pretty big swing at it and ended up with a condition where the actuator arm bottoms out internally just as the linkage hits a travel limit stop. I can now engage diff lock and it doesn't want to...

1538 rear axle won't stay locked

I haven't done any searching of the forums - my bad. I can't keep the rear axle locked. Even with my heel on the lever, it kicks out. Am hoping that the gear or whatever is just not engaged all the way. I guess the worst case is that the PO did something to damage things. I was wondering if...

    Starting problems

In case anyone cares, here is a followup to my saga. After replacing the starter, I worked the tractor for about another 5 hours and then started to have drive problems. It would barely move in forward or reverse. It was beyond my capability to repair, knowing it had to be split. Took it to a...

    Starting problems

I've got a major puzzler here. Tractor is a 2015 1538 HST with 135 hours. I bought it as a repo back in December. I've put about 15 hours on it. All of the fluids and filters have been changed with the exception of the front axle fluid - on my list of to do's. For the last few engine starts...
