Gauging interest in a new product we are looking to carry.

I have the standard Piranha. It works great and I never take it off. I'm unconvinced of the value of the straight edge. I still backdrag and smooth with the standard one and the teeth don't have a detrimental effect when doing so. I'm curious to know the rational/justification for the straight...

    Rear Counter Weight

In the interim here's an excellent video that discusses in great detail the conversation we're having about the physics of 1) rear ballast, 2) rear wheel ballast (weights or Rim Guard), and 3) FEL payload. It's a simple engineering discussion known as a "beam analysis." The video starts with...

    Rear Counter Weight

I believe once the rear wheels touch down that the center of mass starts moving to the rear of the front axle. But rather than debate it, I'll ask an engineer I know how he sees it.
  5. Branson Bob

    Rear Counter Weight

I am not an engineer but I believe it depends on where the center of mass is. I believe your scenarios are only correct in the case where the rear wheels lift off the ground.

    Rear Counter Weight

This discussion is all a matter of degree. 1) The amount of weight on the FEL 2) The amount of weight behind the rear axle 3) How far that weight is behind the rear axle The point remains true regardless of the fulcrum point... when lifting with the FEL, the less weight on the front axle the...

  10. Branson Bob

    Rear Counter Weight

I'm not sure I can explain it much clearer. As in the Messick's video if the rear wheels are off the ground the front axle is obviously the fulcrum. Conversely, when the front wheels are off the ground (as they are when I'm carrying a boulder using my pallet forks on my 3 point hitch) then the...

    Rear Counter Weight

Good question. As you know, the "ideal" weight is a compromise because the material in the FEL varies in weight. Most of the compact utility tractors (CUTs) have a 1/2 yard bucket... about 13 cubic feet. A 1/2 yard of topsoil (depending on moisture) is about 800 lbs. A 1/2 yard of crushed...

Welcome to our forum. I would stick with the manufacturer's spec and try that for awhile. Agreed except sometimes I use my pallet forks on the three-point to carry boulders and full IBC totes. Once I get 2000+ pounds back there I like to have more pressure in the rears. With the backhoe it...

Another nice thing about the pallet forks is that with a 3 point to quick tach adapter, you can use the 3 point hitch to get massive loads off the ground that a FEL could not lift. Whereas the FEL on the 3520 is rated at 2100 lbs at the pins, the 3 point is rated at a tad over 3300 lbs. This...

Garaged the tractor for the winter. In other words I cleaned the garage out. Next weekend I'll do the scheduled maintenance and pressure wash.

😄 Unfortunately for me I'm not the kind of guy who learns from the mistakes of others.

    4520r wheel bolt size?

Yes, just to clarify I fit my 22 mm open end wrench on the head of the wheel bolt.
  124. Branson Bob

    4520r wheel bolt size?

I just measured the wheel bolts on my 3520H and they are 22 mm. I believe yours should be the same.

What have you done to your Branson today?

I like the toothbar so far but the damn masticator kept beating me to the scrub brush. :) Seriously it really works well uprooting and shearing off scrub. Yup, so far so good on the toothbar. The Airstream is a 2006 which we bought in 2015. It was half as much as a new one. It's said they...

What have you done to your Branson today?

Here's the masticator. I bartered wiring my buddies house with a couple of days of mulching all the dead trees in our drought-battered wood lot.
  127. Branson Bob

What have you done to your Branson today?

And used the forks to move some brush piles for a masticator.

What have you done to your Branson today?

I finally installed the Bxpanded Piranha Tooth Bar to prepare for brush clearing.

What have you done to your Branson today?

Yes, I've never found a sky hook worth a damn. They would have come in really handy during my 10 year career as an arborist but they seem to be very scarce... almost mythical.
  130. Branson Bob

What have you done to your Branson today?

I used the FEL bucket as a work platform for pressure washing. I probably could have worn fall protection.
  131. Branson Bob

    BH860 backhoe transport length?

I hate when stuff like that happens. Three weekends ago coming back from the homestead I left my backpack with my work computer in it. On Monday I had to drive 3 hours there and 3 hours back to retrieve it... a 6 hour 300 mile mistake.

Change oil every year or at the recommended 300 hours

Couldn't agree with you more about common sense Cougsfan. I can tell by looking at the oil on my dipstick approximately where my oil is in its life cycle. I also agree that many/most overchange their oil however if cost is no object and one views it as "insurance" there are worse things you can...

    Branson 3510, what’s it worth?

Just off the top of my head I would bet lots of people would be willing to pay $8K. Maybe start at 10 and adjust accordingly? I'm told that supply chain issues continue and that new tractors are in short supply causing the used tractor prices to surge a bit.

What have you done to your Branson today?

They say farms are among the most dangerous workplaces. Though I don't consider our land a farm in the strict sense I'm often working alone and many things I do are calculated risks. I think that speaks for a lot of us. Yeah well that changes everything! If there's no photo it didn't happen...

    3515H Loader Hydraulics

It's only my opinion but I would say that the hydraulic valves for my FEL and backhoe are a bit jerky. What have you done to your Branson today?

Hey Slim. I've been tempted to remove the loader when mowing but have never actually done so. As I'm sure you can tell the FEL came off when backscraping at a steep bucket angle however I don't know when the pin was lost.

What have you done to your Branson today?

Resetting it ended up not being too bad. After I got the come-along and the sling it took about 15 minutes. I used the ROPS as the pull point. Thanks guys. I was lucky that there was no damage and that I was somehow alert enough to actually notice what was happening. I can't imagine how a...

What have you done to your Branson today?

trailer without brakes - max weight

There are two separate discussions... what the law says and what the reasonable, common-sense precaution is. There are numerous variables but the most basic one is "tow vehicle weight to towed load weight ratio," or whatever you want to call it. For instance I think most would agree that 2:1...

  155. Branson Bob

Branson 6530C seems to be hot under the hood

Others will correct me if I'm wrong but you cannot typically run a current through your multimeter. It's a measurement circuit and cannot handle full load current traveling through it. If you put the test probes in series with the circuit so that the circuit runs through the meter it might blow...
  156. Branson Bob

Branson 6530C seems to be hot under the hood

If there's a loose wire or connection it could cause (intermittent) arcing which could cause heating without an overcurrent condition. You can measure current in a circuit using a clamp meter IF there's enough exposed length of wire to clamp around.

Stupid zerk fittings/pin grease on Branson 2810 with BL-10 FEL

When I got my first tractor 5 years ago I eventually learned this idea... that for some of the zerks you need to move the attachments to alleviate pinch points so that they accept grease. This I found to be especially true with the backhoe zerks.

Last chance-Talk me out of a HST cab 20 series

By using the 3-point you relieve an enormous amount of weight from the front axle... but you have the reverse situation... you have to put a bucket load on the FEL or the front axle floats off the ground a bit and you're forced to use your split brakes to steer. Luckily it's the rear wheels that...

Espace, My 2016 3520H FEL (BL25) is rated for 2100 at the pins to full height but can just barely lift (6") and move 275 gallon IBC totes filled with water. That's 2400 lbs. I second this. The pallet forks get a lot of work done for me and I've removed about 15 fairly large trees in the 5 years I've had the tractor. I've made a ton of brushpiles with them. I've also gotten pretty good at "skimming" brush off the ground with the forks... often when I'm arcing a...

    2515H or go bigger?

I would echo what Eric said. I have the 3520H and if nothing else, it is a bull for a 35 hp tractor. The base tractor weighs 4000 not including the FEL. I believe it is the heaviest 35 hp compact utility tractor by any manufacturer. I also believe it has the highest lift capacities both FEL and...
