Dad always told the newlyweds to sleep naked. Mom and dad were married 64 and half before she died. One of their high school teachers told mom to find someone else to marry, he wasn't good enough for mom. Dad always wanted to find that teacher and tell her they lasted that long together...
On my Kubota B26TLB, I have a removable bucket on the backhoe. It is mainly uses a pin to lock the bucket into place with a pin keeper. I would like to think a longer pin and some additional brackets could mount a trailer ball or hitch pin.
Or are you loading the trailer with the loader...
My SMV's are easily removable. The one the B26TLB has been removed permanently. It was in the way of getting on and off of the backhoe position. Both tractors are loaded backwards on the trailers and the truck has a cap on it, so the SMV sign is hard to see. Jon
Had firewood delivered here a few years ago by a self loader. Truck had a boom mounted clam/grapple controlled by a hydraulic operator station. I think it had a lift axle after the three drive axles, plus self steering axle in front of the drives. And then the actual front steering axle. I...
Arly, I have looked at their used inventory and even asked for a quote on one, but never dealt with them. I use Ginops in Alanson, MI becuse they are much closer to me. Good Luck, Jon
For my B26TLB, with about a 4ft ramp length, I use my oil change ramps under the end of the trailer ramp. Shallows it up enough to load the backhoe backwards up the ramps. Oil change ramps consist of 2 layers of 2x material and a piece of 3/4" plywood underneath. Jon
Saw one down in the high grass at dad's the other day. He saw it first and told me. Later I went to check to see if it was still there and it was. Head up watching for me as I approached. That time of year again. Jon
I have never seen that recessed diameter under the head. On Kreg screws or elsewhere. That smaller diameter under the head I assume allows the window to adjust some when you back the screw out a tiny bit. Did you try Anderson themselves? Jon
Parking area of snowy cars, how is it heated, or not. Floor heat helps it dry out. That is what I have along with floor drains. Because each drain is for one car and one door, the floor just sloops to the drain under the car area. Back wall along the work benches is flat. Jon
Also to add...
And as of today, we are still clearing up from our April Fool's joke. Power line people had another crew in there today that had leaners over the lineson the road edge ROW. Making more for me to cleanup for firewood. Dad's plce is up to 15 large burn piles and more need to be built. Jon
Fiber is by the co-op power company serving this area. Hence on the poles for the mainlines. Home drops follow your powerline, ie either on the poles and/or underground. Underground is in orange flexible conduit, with pull boxes every 400 to 500ft between them. Jon
I got it also. Right now wish I would have a dish. Waited for fiber from the power company, got it last fall. It was great. Ice storm came through first of April, and they basically had to rebuild the system. Main lines, poles, and house drops. Jon
Our tile in the kitchen is laid on top of cement board over 3/4" OSB. In the laundry room the tile is laid over "Detra" plastic grid material over the OSB. The plastic grid contains the electric wire for heating the floor. Don't know if the OSB has 1/8" gaps. I know the builder used a sledge...
I think our April's Fool was spent starting to clean up from the weekend ice storm in northern Michigan. March came in like a lion and went out worse. Jon
He should have driven over the mid section. Around here they soon learned they needed to remove the inside hard curbs when the circle was too small in diamter. Jon
Is the bottom fairly clean? Dad's being spring fed and creek fed, gets a lot of silt. Which makes like a quick sand, loose your boot in stuff. BTDT. My prior post is to just point the fact of being able to get out of pond after falling in. Jon
Dad has 3 ponds that were put in in the 1950's. Became natural streams in the cedar swamp. They all have a shallow edge in the water. Meaning a youngster that fell in could stand up and then get out. Too steep of an edge is about impossible to walk out of. Out about 6ft then the pond bottom...
In our old house, we planted a tin box with a few things in it when we did a strip to studs remodel. When we sold the house 5 years ago, new owner did remodel, but we never heard if the tin was found. Building this house we hid another. Jon
We received about 6" at my house yesterday. 9am was rain. 10am the started. And didn't stop until 5pm. Wet heavy snow. Luckily we are retired so no need to go for a drive. It'll melt. Jon
Nothing to say on the paint, but make sure the tops of the boxes overhang the sides. That way the rain will not off unto the sides as easily, just like the overhang on a house. Jon
I saw Marquette had a blizzard warning today. Arly stay safe and maybe you need to use the old time rope trick. (tie a rope to the barn to find your way back). Just tie yourself to the 4 wheeler. Haha Jon
Agree on the mile marker on the RR post. We have them on concrete posts here on an almost abandoned RR line. So many miles from the town of Bay City downstate in MI. Jon
I remember somewhere I heard if the tree is curved or twisted on the stump, it will be that way after cutting the logs. Possibly even after jointing and planing to final size. I have some that I book matched resaw, and they difinitely bowed end to end. Before resaw, nice looking straight...
HH, when milling your trim boards for windows and doors, cut opposing boards from a book matched piece. This way you see the same grain pattern on both sides of the doors or windows. I did this when I trimmed our windows and doors with white pine. Cut/sawmill the boards at 10/4 (2 1/4")...
I left on Sunday morning to CT for a quick trip, left wife home to (wo)man the place, came back Tuesday late evening and woke up to 12" here to clear. Plus the winds. Oh well, at least it is snow. Not fires or hurricane. Jon
I don't want others chain sawing on my property. Take the slabs and cut them the length they want. They can cut at their leasure and I don't have to use my miling time for their benefit. Now if they want you to cut to length, charge them for yuor time. I want my firewood to be 20" long, not...
Ok, tips from Northern Michigan. Sawmill is resting in the storage barn for the winter here. I can move it to the sawing area when needed. I mill in nice weather, no rain. Sawdust pile behind the mill is cleaned up as needed and placed over the bank or on paths. (Same with planer off cast)...
Arly does grooming for the cross skiing trails in his area. His ATV setup shown above. I am not sure if the roller actually leaves a ski track or not. Rolling the snow with the plow on the front turns the snow over taking the air out of light fluffy snow. Then the roller in the back packs it...
Thanks Scott. Ken, sometimes simple is best. I like the fact you basically used hand tools to make your table. The winery table I followed was a rough table. Probably passed down from when it was all hand tools.
Sorry HH for stealing your thread. Jon
Scott, your table looks close to mine. My table was inspired by a similar one at a winery in Oregon. Took pictures of it and sized it accordingly.More chairs are in the plans. Just using school teachers desk chairs for now. All knotty pine, top is 1 5/8" thick. 44" wide x 74" closed, 98"...
I wonder if there is a garden hose version of this. My pressure washer hasn't been used in years. Or can one of these be convertedto a garden hose attachment? I prefer a garden hose for washing vehicles. Jon
Just a question. You say mom's place is about 200 feet away. In relation to ponytug's info, how far are your houses from other houses, streets etc. My house is 1/4 mile from the street, neighbors maybe a little less. So I don't see any other wifi's when I search and I doubt they can see...
I have two different Carhartt coveralls. One has red quilted lining and the other is black quilted. Also have them in bib overalls. Black lining is warmer than the red. These were bought years ago, not sure if they are still avavilable. Jon
If you keep it manual, keep an eye on the pin used to angle it. Mine kept getting harder to pull out and readjust the angle. Finally noticed the bottom end bent a bit so I ground the bump off. Works ok for now, and a replacement is on the parts list next time at the dealer. Jon
What year Tundra and what package level do you have? I have had a 2007 and a 2018 SR5 and do not remember seeing that dial. I know there is a dial for dash lamp intensity. Picture would be helpful of dial. Thanks. Jon
I have the same issues on my B26TLB with the plow on the loader arms. My drive is not straight flat along its length of 3/8's of a mile. Shoes just dig in from the weight of the setup. If the drive was continuously flat with no bumps, raising the plow a bit on the arms would work. But I hit...
This is what we have used with pretty good results on shingles. This is a concentrate that you mix 5 water to 1 part Wet-N-Forget. Spray on shingles with a hand held garden sprayer...
I heard the NWS spokesperson in Gaylord say there was 42" from Thursday through the weekend. Just depends where you were in relation to the lake effect snow bands. Jon
I mounted two trailer tongue jacks to the back sheet metal of my BX2230 snowblower. Crank the handle to raise or lower. But like with all skids, the gravel drives or grass needs to be frozen to support the blower weight. Jon
Arly, you may have noted before, but is your roller weighted? Home made or bought? Hopefully it will stay cold enough for you to keep the snow on the ground for skiing. Enjoy. Jon
That's better than the electric chair that came to my mind. But maybe OP would like to have to eliminate unwanted visitors. He has an excavator to bury any remains. Sorry for the diversion. Jon
For toenailing, cut a spacer block to go between new stud and the prior one. Then drive your toenails on side of stud opposite of spacer block. Remove spacer block, and toenail that side of stud. Do bottom of stud first, then top of stud. Jon
A trick I was told for tipping up floor built walls when ceiling and floor in place and no room to tip. Nail additional top plate in place on the ceiling. Build wall to 1 1/2" shorter height. Tip up, slide under extra top plate, level and secure top and bottom. Jon
Set of heavy car rolling dollies used under the trailer's landing gear/legs. Cable or chain around fifth wheel pin to fork lift pulling in the building, or something pushing it against the trailer rear bumper. Front nose of trailer cut out to load trailer. I think this is a permanent long...
Does flat towing (like behind big RVs) require active brakes in the towed vehicle. I see eTrailer advertizes them. Just wondering? Jon
Looks like WG also matched my comment. Jon
So are these hauling wrong? First 2 pictures some 12 ft treated posts, rest is 10ft 2x treated. 3rd picture is second load. Included is a strap up front in the box. Tundra handled both loads well. Stuff for a tree house for the grand kids. Jon
I am trying firewood bags this winter. BX2230 holding up empty bag while filling from firewood processor. B26TLB moves the bags via the straps on top or the pallet below. Most of the wood is dead ash. Jon
Sure is nice reading your threads. Never been around the actual haying process, but you have explained in an understanding way. Makes it enjoying. Thanks. Jon
Glad for the update on the pond.
"Things for Jeremy to have fun with": Fireworks, wedding venue and now sitting by his pond watching the deer. Enjoy it Jeremy. Jon
When my brother was logging full time he always fueled equipment up every night before going home. He felt it was better preventing condensation by having a full tank overnight.
Maybe the wife needs to run a tractor once in a while. Jon
Boy, restarting an old thread,
Moving firewood. Dyna firewood processor in background with discharge converyor up in the air to avoid hiitting it. BX just holding bag up while filling the bag. Jon
But staying on the ground is better than twisting your body up on the roof. Your body needs some time to heal. Looks like you had good helpers. I enjoy your thread. Jon
To me, cherry would have a redish color to it. Especially left exposed to day light. I would guess maybe ash. Ash has a straight grain to it. But the comment about pin holes makes me believe it could be maple. Some of my air drying maple has dust piles by these holes. Jon
At a party in high school, a girl backed down a curvy drive and ripped the driver door off the hinges trying to look out. Drive went down a hill with an embankment on the driver's side. Jon
We moved onto this property 5 years ago. Built the house with wood boiler for heat. Have been trying to get all the dead ash collected for firewood. Jon
So HD, when you haul stacks off the field, you must have to sort them as to where they were in the stacks as far as where you store off site or sell them. I have seen your pictures of hay loaded on your big trailer. Jon
On that guy filling the bed of the pickup with gas: Why didn't someone just hit the button to shut off the gas pumps? Yeah some others filling their cars would be inconveneinced, but so what! And why follow that truck so closely? With the gas spilling out, stay back enough to talk to 911 or...
I won't argue wall heights. But do you want / need to move two car through the doors at the both time? Or is it mostly one car at a time? Bigger door open to move only one car. Also not sure how long it takes to open the bi-fold airplane doors. Again more heat loss. Now, if you are...
No pictures, dad had a JD MT, three wheeler that he repainted. And a JD MC crawler in need of rebuilding the steering clutches and a repaint job. It was yellow. The MT was mostly green. Now he has a Curtis cabbed JD1070 bought new in 1999, used mostly for snowblowing. Jon
I have been to BNM's shop among a farming community. Small shop, started by dad years ago and the boys grew up in the business and have since taken over. Not sure they would have any connections to other manufacturers. Been happy with the two I had/have. The 16ft looking like yours they...
Eddie, instead of terminating in a electrical box, how about making a false panel in the wall to terminate your heavy cable in for now. In the future remove the false panel and finalize the outlet and its box at that time. I actually ran my romex wiring on the outside of the wall covering and...
The reason I asked was during the winter I had seen a large loader fueling up at an off road diesel pump. He was definately dealing with snow from it all over the machine and the extra large bucket, which was partially blocked with snow.
Plus HD's comment about being registered for for license...
Question, if a tractor is used in the winter clearing driveways, and driving from place to place, are they allowed to use off rod diesel, or on road? Or is it a moot point. When I was clearing drives, I always trailered my BX2230. Just wondering. Jon
Years ago while bike touring in New Mexico, we stayed over night at a rancher's guest house. Our English Cockers were running along side us. The next morning, the rancher took us across 10 miles of tire eating thorn invested road to pavement. Bikes in the back of his truck, us in the cab...
Our pups are crate trained from the first ride coming home from the breeder, 7 hours away. Just brought the latest one home this past Wednesday. Sleeping in his kennel right know. Gets fed in there also. Older two dogs have their own kennels. Older dogs travel so well, that they ride on...
I have used bike bottles for years of bike riding long distance. But they all film up over their time. So I have basically switched to 20oz Pepsi bottles. Can't fill with ice, but can freeze some water in them ahead of time. Old wool socks help keep them cooler and can be pulled over the...
Will the wind blow over the cart? Seems to me it needs an adjustable length back support to keep it from tipping over. Just wondering. And yes do overwork your shoulder before it is healed. Jon
I am with t, I don't understand the need or the science, but won't stop the research from being done. It is important to something outside of my direct needs. Jon
Gaylord is at 87", 62%, 53" below normal. Snowmobile trails here were hardly usable this winter. Ski resorts were able to make some snow, but probably didn't have a great season either. We don't do either. Jon
But Arly will tell you they are way down on snowfall this winter. I know all of northern Michigan is. We seen our grass more this winter than I can remeber in years past. Jon
Fan shaft has two holes on it. One not seen is for the shear bolt and the visible one is in line with shear bolt one. There maybe a bit of play forward and back, though. Jon
I like the non vinyl top per OP's pictures above. Mostly becuse it reminds me of my prior 73 stock, plain jane Omega hatchback in solid bright yellow. Back then I liked the color, now don't know. Like the silver, though. Jon
Problem with those pallets, is how to unload them. I have never seen forks that rotate to the angle to be able to lift the pallet. I think someone has to unload them by hand. Jon
I had over an inch of rain last night here in northern Michigan. Snow is gone, and we are in s snow belt area. Waiting for the frost to leave. But the farmers are hurting for moisture. Only about 65% of normal snowfall for the winter. Jon
bcp and others, find any videos of them removing the truck and trailer from the bridge? I've seen one removing the driver, but did they rig a hand rope to lower rescuer and then raise them both by hand power? Jon
Did a couple of loads that the 12ft logs were longer then the trailer deck. If I got going to fast, over 35mph, tail wantd to wag the dog. Not fun. Kept the speed down. Jon
But think of the equipment needed back around when the 9669 left the tracks.
Any idea of date? Looking at engine style, those cranes could have been around in the 1920's. Jon
My electrician told me breakers that I have are switch rated. Did not ask about 220v breakers though. We wired 2 circuits on the ceiling for lighting strings, and use the breaker to control them. Jon
Sig, that looks like a great letter that others may borrow for passing on to their youngins.
Daughter who went into to Air Force from ROTC, was always involved with space/rockets. She has since been transferred into Space Force. She knows an AF airman that was stationed in Korea and has since...
If the concrete absorbs the passive heat, if you have pex in that floor to preheat or heat the fluid and route that warm fluid to your work areas floors? Might work? Jon
I have been happy with the Timbery saw mill. I have cut white and red pine, oak, white cedar, ash, and cherry for me and maple for a friend. Ordered in spring of 21, and received in the fall. Right now it is in storage inside the barn for the winter. Not sure what I will have to cut this...
HH, which side is your push handle on? Do you load logs with forks on your tractor? Which side is the log dogs on? Where is the discharge of the saw dust?
On my Timbery saw mill, I load logs on the push handle side. The logs dogs are on the opposite side, which is where the saw dust...
Michigan doesn't have front plates, so what happens if that vehicle is in CA? I know the toll passes systems works with just rear plates around here. Jon
Buy the dually dirt cheap and try it. If you don't like it, keep looking for the srw you want and sell dually. Next summer maybe better to find something then in the middle of winter. Like you say, your winter maybe half over or done except for a storm blowing through. (nice spending someone...
At first I used a plastic leaf rake to remove the snow. Then I used a plastic snow rake to pull the snow off. Like deezler, sometimes I would push the tarp up from underneath.
For those tarps needing to shed or suport snow before cleaning. I took 3/4" pvc pipe, slung it under the ridge pipe held in place with zip ties. Ends were in the branch side of 3/4" x 1 1/2" run end pipe Tees. The side opposite of the branch of the tee was cut off to allow to go over the top...
I would think leaving the film/protective material on during heated may allow the adhesive to melt into the poly with unwanted results. Just my guesses though. Have not done this. Jon
Looking up BMO locations, I see some in OK. I know there is a branch in Steamboat Springs, CO near my son. But don't know if that is Eddie's mom's bank, though. Jon
But I will say I like sitting around in a t shirt instead of a sweatshirt. I am usually out in the garage or work shop that are heated to 56 deg F room tmperatures via heated slabs. Typically have a sweatshirt on there and a pair of bibs over my pants. Comfortable. Then I come into 68 deg F...
Now my boiler supplies baseboards for heat. 4 zones, 2 up, 2 down. Each zone has its own circulating pump and thermostat. Upstairs zones run more often than basement, but some of that is because downstairs thremostat are set a few degrees cooler. But the prior house with a boiler system put...
Arly, you going out today or tomorrow to ski? !0 deg F now at 10am in northern Michigan and high temperature tomorrow expected at 4 deg F, without wind chills. Nasty cold, first time this winter. Stay warm. Jon
I just mill 2 more 6x6's to drop the slabs and flitches on. Then call someone to pick them up. I have enough dead ash for my own firewood to have to deal with the slabs. I let them cut to their size they want and not spend time I could be miling to deal with the slabs. Some flitches I will...
Hey Dude, on that dually, can the duals be reduced to singles? I think the beds are one piece now, whereas the old ones had extra fenders pieces added to the bed for the duallies. I have seen sinlges removed beds around here, not sure brand or year, though. Jon
