Looking for tire advice for Deere 770

Ok I have dug around a million tire websites, called the dealer and visited the local ag tire shop. Was hoping for a hybrid tire, but there just isn’t much available for little tractors like the 770. Very few R-1 setups I could find that support the needed MFWD 1-4% lead. Closest I could find...

Looking for tire advice for Deere 770

Good comment about the MFWD limit. I think the spec I have seen in the forums is 1.571 lead, but I’ll be darned if I can find that number listed anywhere in the owners manual or service manual. Do you know what the true 770 spec is and where it can be found?

Looking for tire advice for Deere 770

Hello all, I have a 1998 Deere 770 with MFWD. I purchased it used 15 years ago with original R1 rears (Firestone field & road 12.4-16) and replaced the fronts when I bought it with Carlisle 6-12 farm specialist R1s. The fronts are starting to fail, and the rears are finally dry rotting, time to...

Buying Advice Thinking about buying my first ZTR

Great advice all. I think I've landed on buying a mid-range Kubota at the dealer down the road. But I'm putting it off until next season. Instead spent a few dollars tuning up the clunky Deere LA130 to make it last until next year and spending my $$ on other toys this season. But over the...

    My wife wants to ride!

Great safety thinking all. I know I spent time on my grandpa's knee on the tractor when I was a tyke, but I'm sure it was totally unsafe. But still might try to leverage all of this into buying a bigger machine...I have a window of opportunity at home...

You make an excellent and important point. I may look at cab options (the AC would be nice down here in the summer anyway)

    My wife wants to ride!

I think my experience will be like yours...my wife will probably ride a few times and then decide it's not so fun. I think it's much more likely that I'll have grandkids, foster kids, etc on the tractor with me while I mow. So I'm looking for options...

    My wife wants to ride!

This would actually be perfect. I need to use her as an excuse to buy the bigger tractor (and get some fun implements for it) then convince her she really doesn't want to ride by hitting every rut in the field! In all seriousness, we're likely to end up with some foster kids in the home soon...

Has anyone added a buddy seat to a CUT?

Wife has said she wants to ride while I mow - not sure if that's a good thing or not... But we are also likely to have foster kids in the house soon and some tractor time for them might be a good thing once in a while. I don't really need or want a full-size ag tractor - I do alot of trail...

    My wife wants to ride!

Not sure if this is good news or not...but my wife has asked me how big of a tractor I'd need in order to get a 2nd seat so she can ride around with me when I mow, etc. My first reaction (which I suppressed) was to say no way - that's my tractor time you're messing with here... But I'm also...

Question about PTO slip clutch rebuild

Hello, I have an old JD 513 shredder that I never tested the PTO slip clutch until yesterday. It was totally bound up, so I pulled it off and separated all the parts. They came apart pretty easily. I've watched some videos about reassembly, and it looks like alot of guys polish these discs...

Quick hitch for a JD 770?

The Pat's system looks interesting. Watched some videos, and most were very positive. But there was one concern some mentioned, lost rear lift capacity due to 4" extension. My JD770 has a very limited rear lift capacity, and losing any of it is a concern... Did you experience this?

Quick hitch for a JD 770?

Hello, Getting read to take delivery of a Woodland Mills chipper for my JD770. I've used my tractor for mowing, box blading, post hole digging, and always hated the process of mounting attachments on the cat 1 3 pt. Just tedious, and a lot of banging / skinning knuckles. Has anyone used a...

Buying Advice Thinking about buying my first ZTR

I've had a collection of JD riders / garden tractors over the years and they have been pretty good to me. I've got a 317 and a 33 tiller. 300 series tillers use the mower deck hydraulics to raise/lower the tiller and the rear PTO to drive the tiller gear box. I actually am ready to part with my 33 tiller if you in the mood for drive south (Dallas)

Does anybody know what kind of connector this is? Where to buy?

It's not that hard. Just put female spade connectors on the wires coming off of your work light and they should fit right into the installed connector on your tractor. You don't need a special plug. I just did this on my 770.

    Quick! Kohler KT17....

I've got a 317 with a kt17 series 2 in it. I put in the series 2 after my series 1 blew. The series 2 is a really strong reliable engine. I've used my 317 for mowing 3 acres, tilling a one acre garden and running a 49 snow thrower.

Good Motor to replace a KT17 SI?

Starter is definitely in a bad spot on this machine. First time I replaced mine I pulled the engine. Good Motor to replace a KT17 SI?

Easiest way to drain fuel on this machine is to pull fuel line off carb and pull it down below the engine. The only other option is to reach up behind the left rear wheel and disconnect the line where it exits the tank. That's also where the fuel filter is (worth checking). If engine not...

Good Motor to replace a KT17 SI?

I should mention that since the spec number is stamped on the shroud it's possible to have a 317 mower with a Series 2 spec # on the shroud but actually have a Series 1 engine inside. There are whole threads on weekend freedom machines dedicated to help you tell the difference between Ser 1 and 2.
  46. NickTaylor

Good Motor to replace a KT17 SI?

The spec number on the kt17 is actually on a stamped plate mounted on and engine shroud near the firewall. I replaced a blown series 1 with a series 2 short block, runs like a champ. Wasn't worth it for the money, but of course that wasn't the point. Check out weekend freedom machines...

    JD seats on Ebay...

I just bought one for my 770 on ebay. New seat from dealer was about $265. I spent about $160, nice seat and ready to install. But the SMV bracket on the new seat had different hole spacing than my original seat so right now my SMV sign is hanging from the top bolt only.

I have a 317 that I rebuilt after the Kohler Series 1 engine blew. I was able to find a series II short block on weekend freedom machines (google it) for about $800. It runs like a champ now. It probably wasn't worth the price but it wasn't just about the money :-)
