Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

A taller tire travels further per revolution. But they are geared for tractor speeds, so if you are going 2mph with a small tire and 2mph with a tall tire, you're both going 2mph. The surface foot speed is the same but the tire RPMs are different.

    Recent price for a 4707

  59. airbiscuit

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

On asphalt maybe. In dirt, I'd bet on the taller tires. If you took that example to the extreme, you could have tires about 4" tall and 6' wide. I'd still bet on the taller tires.
  60. airbiscuit

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

If it was just about footprint, you could put duals or triples on the BX and it should do as well as the L2401?
  61. airbiscuit

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

If it was just about Weight, you could hang 1,080 lbs + 1lb on the BX2680, and it would win a tug of war on the L2501. I would bet against that!
  62. airbiscuit

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

As I think about it, I think it has more to do with tangents and vectors. With a taller tire, more of the force is close to parallel with the ground.
  63. airbiscuit

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

I'm not sure I can explain the physics of a taller tire. I can only say that I grew up on a farm and the tractors with small diameter tires were always spinny. I think it is more than ground footprint, but also the geometry/leverage of a taller diameter. Those old John Deere B's didn't have...

Why is Weight The Only Solution Being Offered To The Problem Of Traction?

Weight matters. So does having a taller diameter tire. The two usually go hand in hand. Consider a tug of war between a Kubota BX 2680 - 24.8hp - 1521 lbs - 26x12x12 R4 rear Kubota L2501 - 24.8hp - 2601 lbs - 15 -19.5 x(40) rear Anybody wanna guess which one would win? I really like...

Gelled up the filter on the GC...quick fix and back running

A hair dryer works remarkably well for warming things up. When we built our house, the frost followed the newly disturbed soil around the well casing and froze the waterline at the pitless adapter. The well guy came out and asked if we had a hair dryer. He taped a 8' piece of 1" black tubing on...

I don't suppose you can see headlights looking from on end to the other? Project a Laser Level vertically from one point on a misty night? One thing that I've learned is that it's harder than you think to walk in a straight heading.

Currently In Decision Phase - Tons Of Info To Be Had - Hopefully This Helps Some

One other thing I would add is to invest the time (searching and learning). If buying new, spend time on dealer lots, looking carefully at features, checking out ergonomics, differences between models and brands and operating if possible. You will learn something new each time. If buying...

It looks like the Woodmaxx warranty for flail mowers covers (defective) parts only for 2 years. Again, I hope the OP gets resolution to...

I don't have an opinion on the rod size. All I know is that the curl function on every loader I've ever had has always been way more powerful than the lift function. I always attributed that to leverage and geometry.
