    If the skids were mine, I would go right to a 1/2" bolt. Drill (tap drill), tap the skid, then use the bolt to hold the nut in place so you can weld it. The threads would then be through the weldment, and the nut.

    I think it just depends on the quality of the road bed if moisture and thawing will affect it. My drive has a strong base that even a propane truck can drive on it when the frost is coming out of the ground. It never "goes to crap". Everyone has different conditions to deal with. (y)

    PCV valve is normally up under the valve cover. It is used to separate oil from the crankcase vapors and to vent those vapors into the intake manifold. Caution must be used when filling the engine with oil. Too fast and you can fill a cylinder with oil and cause hydrolock. See service bulletin...

    I have a Range disabler in my 2013 and it works fine. It will run the battery down if you don't drive much. You can get a extension wire for it that has an on/off switch. Most of my driving is local back roads so I shift into M5 which keeps it in v8 mode without using the Range.

    Water in the gearbox is going to settle to the bottom, where a siphon hose will never reach. The water will be down inside the output shaft bearing and lower seal. The only sure way of getting most of the water out is to tip up the mower so everything will drain out. Or, pull the lower seal.
