    Ballast GC1700 series ballast recomendations

Re-surfacing this thread... I have a GC1705 and am not clear about this statement. Are you saying brakes do not engage equally in both 2wd and 4wd?

Massey/Agco vs aftermarket replacement hydraulic hoses and replacement interval

Hi All, thanks for the replies - this helps out a ton... generally sounds like local shop hoses are as good or better than OEM and replace as needed, possibly in pairs or if in a dangerous location. I wasn't sure if they all tend to go around the same time, and it's now clear that isn't the...

Massey/Agco vs aftermarket replacement hydraulic hoses and replacement interval

Seems I need to replace a hose on my GC1705's FEL (DL100)... part SL103366. The tractor/FEL is around 10 years old, and is stored outside. Should I be looking to replace all the hoses at this age, or should they generally run longer? Is there a standard replacement interval? Is there much of...

What are the signs of rototilling when it's too wet?

Thanks - can you describe what you'd call wadding up? Is this just a slight build up on the tines, or big clods starting to connect the tines?

What are the signs of rototilling when it's too wet?

I have soil that is about 60% sand, 20% clay, 20% silt. The soil is mostly dry on top, but 3-5" down damp... If I start tilling it, how will I know if is too damp? If you say something like 'it clods up', can you give an idea of the size of the clods when I should call off the tilling? Thanks!

Anyone have a clean way to drain the antifreeze out of a GC engine block?

The thought of putting a valve on there is a good one, though it would be tiny, and would need to hold up to the heat OK. Similarly, I suppose putting some sort of nipple with a section of tubing and a valve on the end of that might be an option. However, that plug is super small... like 3/8" or...

    GC1715 Temp Gauges Failure

I had a similar issue with my GC1705 gauge ceasing to work after many years. Screws were not fully snug but also not loose, per se. I removed, wire brushed screw and contact, and replaced/snugged (one-by one) and it works now. Thanks for the info.

Anyone have a clean way to drain the antifreeze out of a GC engine block?

The owners manual mentions annual coolant change, and directs you to a hose, which seems to only drain the radiator. Draining the block seems to require removal of a plug on the side of a block, but it's definitely a messy process as the coolant runs down the block, axle, frame, and everything...

    Frozen Tires

What's the reasoning about keeping volume to 75%? Does it maintain some cushion at 25% air?

    Frozen Tires

Thanks for weighing in. They didn't freeze the first 6 years! I went out and extracted a little fluid, and by first appearance, it seems the rear tires are ballasted with antifreeze. I use the tractor to plow snow, and there are times I have to get a running start and wish I had more weight...

    Frozen Tires

I have a GC1705 that I bought used about 7 years ago. It already had loaded tires. Last winter, the tires were freezing. Today, what's the preferred approach to loaded tires? Is there a thread or site I should read? If not what fluid, ratio, and volume is needed, and how to do you get it in...

GC1705 - dual front axle leaks. Diagnosis, parts, and cause?

Must be a pretty common issue due to design. Did you also get a lot of small debris around the pivot point of the axle? 525 sounds a lot more reasonable than 283 to me. Keep me posted what you find on parts or other info.

GC1705 - dual front axle leaks. Diagnosis, parts, and cause?

I have a GC1705, and it appears that the front axle seals have leaks on both sides. Can someone familiar with the topic confirm I am diagnosing this correctly? Looks like I need to replace the oil seals listed as #13, as per the below diagram, and that is the only part I need to buy? Anyone...
