Starlink

Everything is increasing, apparently.
I see almost across the board higher prices or smaller sizes/less features, etc…

The only area I have experienced large price declines is local real estate… but that’s for another discussion.

I use lite and it tests at 160+ all the time with some obstructions. Way better than my 30 mb dsl line that rarely provided 20 down and about 3 up.
Fiber is about 1/2 mile away if they pull it here I'll try it depending on what they offer out here.

If you're asking about 100mb service, I don't have starlink but my service is 100mb and I have no problem streaming, up and downloading files. My average speed is anywhere from 80 to 110 down.

Mines also going up to $130, from $120 ... Once I retire I'm shutting it off!
Same here. I got the notice yesterday. The same day auto-pay went in. I've only had Starlink since February. Or was it March. I may roll back to the 200Mb. I never get the advertised 400Mb speed I was promised. 🤬

I don't get the 400mb I'm paying for either, it averages closer to 200mb.
If I switch to the 200mb plan, will I only get 100mb??

I'm pretty sure there was never a 'promise' of any particular speed. It would have said "up to". Speeds are always conditional on situation, weather, obstructions and position of sat in the sky, as well as network traffic.

I've used the Internet a long time, including many different speeds over the last decade from the pitiful DSL available at my rural home when we moved in back in 2016 ("5 Mb/s" rated, in practice 1.5-3.5 real) up to Starlink max plan like you. Frankly, after I got a cellular hotspot at around 35 Mb/s I've never encountered a situation where Internet speed was a factor unless I was specifically downloading very large files. The amount of use cases where 400 Mb/s is materially better than 200 Mb/s is vanishingly small unless you're some type of media creator.

I have seen speeds of 450 mb/s a couple times when checked in the area of 3-3:30 AM. So I will see a monthly increase of $12.50 while using mini in roam with the new rate plan. And that will be $15.00/month increase over the old rate with mini in standby.

In my case I don't have reliable internet without starlink Just spotty cell service.

I only have it because I have almost no other option that can sustain my 4K security cameras ... They are a part of my security system at home while I'm gone on the road ... The only other option was three times the price for a "commercial Wi-Fi" setup, with an additional $10k to set up there tower to reach me ... Of course everyone else out my direction would also benefit ... I said no!

Once I retire I don't need the cameras or the other parts of the system, I get about half signal strength there on my cell phone, even though I can see 5 towers from my back porch, I'll get by ... May not post as many pictures though!

I received the similarly formatted email for the Gen3 from $120 to $130/mo and for the Mini's standby from $5 to $10/month. I logged into my account and asked the 'Grok' helper for justification. Grok told me to disregard the notices and if I see a change to log a ticket.

So don't get angry - just communicate with them.

Do keep us updated as to what the outcome is.
Thanks!

Tried your idea but got nowhere.

Starlink said I can switch from the 400mb to the 200mb plan for less money, but I will loose the higher priority service during peak hours and the free travel mini kit.

I'm averaging 240mb now on the 400mb plan. Starlink says in my location, it will likely drop to between 100 and 180mb if I switch to the cheaper 200mb plan, depending on customer demand.

Could be because I have the older gen 2 system compared to your gen 3.

BTW, the Gen3 was new in November because the automatic s/w update for the Gen1 did not install correctly and bricked the unit. They knew the update failed and supplied the Gen3 on their dime. There was no speed difference between the Gen1 and Gen3 but the WiFi in the Gen3 reaches much further. We are not in a congested area - I think that makes a difference. But on a holiday long weekend there is definitely a slow down.

They aren't going to send notices to every customer and then be like "never mind". AI chatbots can be useful, but they can often get things wrong, especially when it comes to recent changes. The data their models are trained on is historical and made up of many data points. The ones that are consistent are the ones that drive the decisions/answers. When something changes like this pricing model it may take a while for the model to get things sorted out and update to valid responses.

That is a perspective and worthy of consideration. But we aren't talking about AI in general, we are talking about Starlink. If I can say this without ruffling feathers my broken Gen1 dishy was much more confusion with multiple humans who didn't read context in previous communications. That really ticked me off: it was right there, if they looked. But they didn't. So every message had to have context so things didn't go sideways because many humans have a short window.

Unless it is my wife and she remembers stuff before I married her and everything in detail. Your mileage may vary. I am blessed with a very short memory. Except for some things.
