I moved to a different property and thought I would cut at the usual height which then scalped the lawn.
I then adjusted the cut height to 3" and now the lawn looks great. Fewer scrapes from the driveway, rocks, twigs, etc.
What height do the rest of you cut at?

TIA

Depends… suburban lawns on the short side…

During rationing I cut my rear lawn on the Honda mower highest setting… I used a lot less water… and it was still green but far from golf course…

It depends. Most of the time 3”. Rough terrain 3.5 to 4”. Trying to discourage buttercup 1.5 to 2”. Running an eXmark radius with a 60” deck.

I cut long! Why not?

Yeah, mostly 3" and for the same reason, although I'm all 'natural' (rain) watering as I'm strictly on tank water. Also, the UV rays are particularly brutal in Tassie during the non-Winter months. That means keeping it mostly that short due to the danger of bush/grass fire.

I try to keep the horse paddocks initially at 3" when I mulch the droppings after shifting them on to the next. That gives the paddock grass enough time to (hopefully) grow/recover above 5" by the time that the horses cycle back into that paddock. Horses ideally like grass height around 5-6"... I don't know why, but they do.

I cut cool season grasses (fescues / bluegrass) to 3.75" April through June, and some lawns get adjusted to 4.0-4.25" in July and August.

The lawn around my house is usually 3.25" in the spring, but up to 4" as summer gets going ... My "big lawn" really 14.5 acres if fields at 5" ...

In the spring, I cut the Bermuda grass on my 1 acre lot to about one and 3/4 or two reasons first he gets the Bermuda crawling, not growing vertical and secondly and more important by cutting it short during the spring when snakes become very active it kind of keeps him out of the yard, which is a good thing. Copperhead and rattlesnakes are not my friend or my pups. As the weather gets warmer, I let the grass go a little taller, so the leaves shade the roots and helps moisture stay in the ground a little longer. I use a Kabota 1211.

4 1/2" here too in NH - stays greener longer during dry times.

In the fenced yard around the house 2" and in the big yard (ex horse pasture) 3" and thinking about raising it a little more.

Mowing high also helps you avoid hitting rocks, sticks and mole hills, all of which I have in abundance.

Sounds like mine. 2 3/4 to 3” year round.

My dad used to cut at 1.5, but his lawn is flat for the most part. I mow it now at 2 3/4” also.

Yep.

4 1/2 - 5". Most years we have a dry spell or two and our yard is green while everyone else's scalped grass is brown.

But, this year it's all brown. The county has had the 2nd driest YTD over the past 132 years. Mowed twice this year. Around here the first cutting of hay is done by now and corn is waist high. No hay. No corn even planted.
