Hyd hose length and bend radius

Hi Guys,

Im wondering if the hoses to my side link I'm installing look ok?

They are 1/4" hoses. I have moved the lift arms up and down and they seem ok but they are not filled and under pressure.

I think the valve on the cylinder is able to be loosened to rotate, which would give me a little slack. Has anyone rotated one of those and can tell me which of the nuts to slack off?

I got 4 hoses the same length and the 2 going to the top link are fine.

Edit: Questions answered by the first 2 responses. Rotated the valve by loosening the 2 outer nuts on the check valve and that relaxed the bend radius.

Yes, you can rotate the check valve in the cylinder. Just loosen the nuts I marked in the picture, rotate the valve and tighten them again.

EDIT: Make sure you keep an eye on the hoses/fittings as you cycle the 3 pt hitch up and down, to make sure they don't hit anything.

Thanks for the warning. I did move it up and down slowly and stopping to check and will do the same when I connect the top link.

your hose spec's will tell you based on how the hose was made / material used but usually about 10X the radius is the tightest for common discount type pre-made hoses. Your last pic looks tight.

Gotcha. Im going to rotate the check valve tomorrow and hopefully that will give me enough slack. Thanks.

your hose spec's will tell you based on how the hose was made / material used but usually about 10X the radius is the tightest for common discount type pre-made hoses. Your last pic looks tight.

Extend one of them until they clear each other. Or at least use 45s.

That is not a hard situation to overcome with all the various fittings available.

I'm trying to get this going with what I have on hand. I had purchased the straight fittings in case the 90's didn't work. Yes I can purchase more fittings and probably will buy some 45's but will need to wait for them with shipping.

Being able to rotate the check valve will help, which was one of my original questions.

Rotate the check valve 90 degrees and then install your 90's. I presume they are like the ones in the link. I am unclear why you don't have room for them.

The 90's are male to male jic. I misspoke when stating they won't fit. They do fit but when tight they are oriented the wrong way. I have ordered some 45's with the swivels to go on the straight jic fittings. That will give a little extra length plus the 45's will route better.

The 90's bspp to jic fittings for the lift cylinder are the ones that won't fit due to being larger plus the ports being too close and I ordered some straight fittings for that check valve.

Rotating the check valve has lessened the bend radius, which was the question I asked.

The one thing that caught my attention is your hoses are really close to where a PTO shaft will be spinning.

However, if you don’t use PTO equipment it’s not an issue.

A male female 90 of the type I linked would increase your adjustability. With the check valve now rotated 90 degrees from the orientation in the photo a male female swivel would allow you to rotate the fittings so it they are pointing towards the seat. This would eliminate the bend for all practical purposes and route the hoses away from the PTO and the top link. Apparently the 90's you have require you to remove the straight adapters where the ones I linked wouldn't. Glad you have it working now though.

If it were mine I would rotate the whole cylinder 180* having the lines pointing forward it would be much cleaner. You might have to swivel the black port fitting and use a couple of 45s or 90s to make it fit.
May not have room but I would try.
