Twice last week heard interesting plane flying by. In both cases, I just went into the bathroom which prevented me from running quickly outside to see the planes :-(
The first planes I heard were fighter planes. They popped up on the flight tracker with the generic aircraft symbol and nothing else. I could hear them fly by but could not see them. They kept the transponder on until they cleared the more dense air traffic and then they "disappeared." They were flying from Down East so they could have been Air Force F15s or USMC Harriers or F35s. I have heard these planes before, and the once or twice I have been able to see them, they had twin tails so they could have been F15s or F35s.
The other plane that I did see was another Spanish A400! This was the first time I have seen them with the Mark I Eyeball. I have never seen them before but that is the fifth or sixth one I have flown by that I could hear. The other odd thing was it's course. It did NOT head SW like the other A400s but it headed west. I followed it and it went out to New Mexico or beyond. Very odd.
Then there was last night. Yet another thing I have not seen before. There was a flight of seven and then eight C130s that took off from Pope/Bragg and flew to the SW. What the heck said I. I see C130s and C17s taking off or landing at Pope all of the time. Even in groups which are usually at most four C130s and maybe one or two C17s. They usually take off, fly around Central NC, and then go back to drop the paratroopers off over the landing zones at Bragg.
Last night was way different. I saw seven C130's take off with a decent spacing between planes and they headed SW one after the other. Eventually, I saw another C130 take off and head SW for a total of eight. I did follow them to see where they went and it was in Louisiana. I am guessing they were off to train at Fort Polk.
