It's laughable that Mahindra rates higher than Kioti and Yanmar,

Didn't John Deere lose the lawsuit over DIY repairs? Originally JD said only they could work on/repair their brand equipment.
That(only we can fix it) alone turned me off to the green brand/John Deere.

It would be interesting to know who funded that report??????? Mahindra ahead of Yanmar & Kioti with JD Numero Uno????? Whomever gathered their information for that report didn't read the tractor discussion forums I frequent!!!!!!

The story indicates it comes from Public Interest Research Group. PIRG is actually a lot of associated organizations that came out of a Ralph Nader initiative many years ago. I don't think they are wacko and they don't take funding from businesses, but they do tend to trend left - anti big business, anti automobile, the consumer needs protection, etc. Whether they have the expertise to evaluate tractors is unknown.

Other than the headline, is there a place that shows the ranking? I only read 5, and no way did I get the indication of its "place" in the rankings.

Indeed, not so much a ranking but just a collection.

I'd argue one of Deere's faults is the consolidation of dealers into large chains.

said (referencing slashgear) ". . . we've put together a list of 14 major tractor brands ranked from worst to best. Taking into consideration reliability, resale value, warranty, servicing coverage, and how much they're investing in new technology like fully electric tractors."
That statement showing how they have muddied the waters with 5 criteria (of unknown weights) makes the ratings suspect. The buyer may have different weightings. Conventional wisdom from several years on this forum is that dealer support and rapport is most important.

Good point. Resale value may be important to car buyers, but how much do tractor buyers care? I've seem it mentioned here but I think most of us never think about selling when we buy a tractor. Also, is there anyone on here who cares how much a manufacturer is working on electric tractors?

I don't care, but I'm quite certain I could sell my tractor today for more than I paid for it 8 years ago (bought used).

I never sold a CUT for less than I paid for it, even after years of use.

Kioti got dinged for the lack of a large dealer network, not for the tractors themselves, which they didn't seem to have anything bad to say about.

so many variables ...

my needs are light-duty, easy, part -time use, it's a hobby for me, not an income / career

I'm happy with my Kubota (dealer, and brand service repair shop both reasonably close, personal connections, and good product)

I would (and have) considered John Deere (dealer too far), KIOTI (dealer too far), and other brands like Massey (cousin has this brand), Ford, McCormick (cousin is a dealership) and New Holland

my next tractor will be larger hp, and a 15-20 yr old USED machine ... so that will be availability, suitability, not necessarily brand

So you are aiming for when all the DEF fluid stuff started? Interesting.

Lots of hate for Mahindra here, and yes they aren't Kubota, but a lot of you people hating on them have probably never ran one. They aren't fancy but they work and get the job done. I know 4 other people with them and none of us have had any issues. And to top it off, they weren't even ranked that highly. But it sure hurt some of your feelings.

Mine are about the same as yours. I've got a Kioti because that's what was available (used) at a good price when I was in the market, previous tractor was a JD. Both were trouble-free. There's a Kioti dealer a couple towns away, any other make is considerably further. Parts/service is a big part of the decision, I'm not enough of a mechanic to do any more than just the basic maintenance or repairs.

I really don't know that much about them. Don't know anyone who has one, nor have I seen a dealer anywhere near me.

From what I've read here, you really can't go wrong with any of them...easy availability of parts/service seems to be the biggest factor.
