I have an old I.C.R.R. lantern in the garage. Wonder what it's worth?
Whatever someone will pay for it. ;)

We see railroad lanterns in antique stores fairly often. Prices fluctuate wildly. Look up that lantern on-line to get some ideas.

For those that missed it it's now up as a clip and edited.
It sounded like the driver of the vehicle was gunning the engine to attempt to get off. Do we know the driver ever got out before impact??

Wait until he gets rustoleum paint bill to cover the cost of repair to that plow on the loco.

That train was moving pretty slow. Good thing that everyone survived. Having humped cars and worked on derailment wrecks, getting in front of a train sure makes me nerves.
I was surprised how fast the train stopped.

I live about an hour away from Quincy and the story was on the local news but no pictures or video. Yep, he got charged with DUI along with DORT. DRIVING ON RAILROAD TRACKS.

Hoar frost is the photographic order of the day and made for a nice background as U717 climbed away from the Artichoke River at Culver a few minutes ago with heavily steaming fresh baked pellets from United Taconite. Iron Range of MN.

Judging from the lack of compressed springs on the car trucks, those cars were most likely empty, otherwise it wouldn't have stopped that quickly.
Also, judging from the sounds of the engines in the locomotives, the engineer didn't throttle back until after he hit the car.
When a cousin worked for Conrail, they were told to never brake or cut power until you hit something, as sometimes idiots in cars would play chicken and pull off the tracks just in time to not get hit.

There is a long sight distance there (probably a mile minimum) as well so the train would have recognized a problem well before the crossing. They could have been in dynamic braking with some brake application as well before they were sure the car was on the tracks and went into emergency. I am quite familiar with that crossing and those tracks. Some people acted like it's terribly confusing. I suppose when you are drunk it might be. A normal person would have stopped immediately too. They said they were 180 feet from the crossing. Yes he kept trying until the very last in hopes by some miracle it was going to get traction and drive away. Stupid is as stupid does. There is an access point to get to the tracks through a cement plant to the East that I used to go in through and work on machines. Just one of the many places I covered in my career.
