20F with bright sunshine @ 14:30, that's probably about it as far as a high temp is concerned.
Got around another inch of so of snow overnight, total up to around 3" on the ground. Continuing to avoid plowing the driveway ...
Plans kind of went off the rails yesterday, starting with the trip to the hardware for the black pipe fittings.
Headed out after The Woman got back only to find after arriving @ Ace that they had closed 18 minutes earlier (16:00) ...
So I hot-footed it over to the Depot where I picked up the 3 fittings and left around $5 lighter in my wallet.
Primary roads were in pretty good shape, but the secondary ones were pretty sloppy.
Headed downstairs after I got back and pulled the fiberglass insulation where the electric and gas enter the house. Could feel the cold air coming even before I had it all out ... once it was removed the cold air was just pouring in.
Found the header joist was split horizontally across the entire length in that cavity, in line with the 2" gas pipe. About a 1/4" wide crack.
Got it all vacuumed out and cleaned up and started foaming it with Great Stuff, using an older can which was way past its "Best By" date (mid-2010's ... lol)
That didn't last long so I broke out a little fresher can (best by 2022 ...

) which worked a lot better and got it all foamed up and sealed, with no more air outside coming in.
Woman had come down and was assisting, then did some additional cleaning.
I got the debris canister on the vacuum emptied after that and the furnace filter changed.
Made an effort to find the 3/4" copper pipe straps without success, Woman located them later. Had I been thinking of it, I would have grabbed a pack of those over at the Depot.
Then broke for dinner and cleaned up some leftovers.
Watched 3 Season 1 episodes of Landman that were available on Prime after that before they went away.
After that I went back down and proceeded to start polishing some old (previously used) 3/4" copper pipe that I will use for the full temp hot water feed to the clothes and dish washers, by wet sanding them with some vinegar and a small piece of 320 grit sandpaper:
The before and after:
Why ?
No real good reason ... other than I like pretty things ... and found the process to be somewhat therapeutic ... lol ...
Knocked off very early this morning.
And as predicted by The Woman, I did absolutely nothing with the black pipe fittings I ran out and picked up ... lol.
On the agenda for today:
Most of what was on the list yesterday that didn't get done (meds, pay phone bill, fill hopper feeder, etc.)
Plus had problems with the last several of the last polyiso panels with the adhesive not adhering ... despite wiping them down with a wet rag before attempting to put them up. So those will have to be addressed.
Beyond that not really sure ... but I'm sure there won't be any trouble finding additional things to do.
From the sound (and smell) of things, Woman is making the sausage dumplings and 'kraut ...
This coming Monday temps are supposed to warm up to around 40F ... after 5 or so days of being well below freezing.
Seems like that would probably be a good time to move that drywall out of the van and into the basement.
Hope everyone is having a Happy New Year !
