The producers want complete fools on the show then we have to spend 10 minutes interviewing them... like we all want to know more. It's about them, not the game.
Just like every interesting "occupational reality" show devolves into badly-scripted fake drama between the participants after the first season.

Everything from Deadliest Catch to Ice Road Truckers to Highway Thru Hell were great in their first season, before turning into stupid pranks and drama somewhere around season 2.

But enough of that. How about a "kids today" clip?

Never watched Deadliest Catch, but the other 2 seem OK, drama is certainly played up though. On IRT they do seem to have selected some pretty cantankerous characters, hope they're not reflective of the industry in general.

Something similar with some of the competition reality shows too (Amazing Race, Tough As Nails, etc.)...everybody seems to have some sort of sob story.

Gold Rush... watched the first season, and enjoyed it, right up till the end, when they totaled up the gold, like $120k or something, and realized, they would have made more mining limerock roadbase, moved less material, and not froze their butts off in Alaska. But in the show, they are excited that 5 guys, over 3 months, get to split $120k in revenue, not profit... Thats every bit of $30k in equipment per month, so 5 guys, worked hard for 10k in 3 months....

I would think that they got some compensation for doing the TV show also. That's why they have all of those advertisements.

My pet peeve is that we have to replace the entire wiper arm instead of just the rubber like we did back in the day. Expensive and wasteful.
Trico makes 6,7 and 8mm cut to length refills. I've used them for a few decades now. I'm not really sure why anyone would replace the whole works. Bought a used pickup, and someone had replaced the oem blades with aftermarket ones - that later broke. I put on oem bosch blades now so I can go the refill route next time they need replacing.

Sounds like the economics of American Pickers. Two guys and an expensive truck driving half way across the country to pick up a few items with margins of just hundreds of dollars on most items. Obviously that's not paying for the three employees, rental on their building, vehicle, etc., without another revenue stream.

Ok, so a Peeve, and show mixed... Alone, I like the show, it seems pretty dang legit, mostly enjoyable, although the Australian sping off is ridiculous... But, we have like 4 streaming services, Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, DisneyPlus, maybe another one, but nope, can't get the new episodes. Wife got Paramount for Yellowstone, and kept it for Landman, but thats all it has. Netflix used to have a ton of stuff, now.... DisneyPlus, very rarely watch... This all started to save money from satellite TV. and after you sign up for the 6 streaming things to watch maybe 8 things you actually want to watch, you right back at the same price

Netflix still has a lot of good shows. Enjoying my way thru several seasonf of Homeland now. I think I also watched Lost and Jack Ryan on Netflix, although I guess I could be remembering wrong... they do all tend to blend together in memory.

The one that's really gone down the tubes is Prime. Anymore, it appears to be nothing but a paid service for advertising the other things you can buy. I can't even remember the last time I found any good movie or show on that service, that didn't require an additional purchase of some sort.

It's funny you mention Prime.
Even some of the shows/movies made for Prime now cost extra.
Pretty sad.
Even worse is I can watch some of them on other services for free.

One of my pet peeves is paying a monthly fee for the privilege of watching television. An antenna and a DVR provide enough time wasting for me, with no ongoing expense, and I don't have to sit through commercials.
